What isSUPERSTITION?

• It is an irrational belief. • It is of our daily lives and most have unknown

origins.

• Sometimes they are logical and sometimes ridiculous.

ORIGIN AND HISTORY•Superstitions originated perhaps, when man was at the

mercy of the natural elements.

•It began centuries ago when our ancestors tried to explain mysterious circumstances or events as best as they could with

the knowledge they had.

•It is inherited by the following generations.

• It are deep rooted and irrational beliefs.

• They are passed down from generation to generation.

• Its an objective to protect from evil spirits.

• But some were based on scientific reasoning.

EXAMPLES:-

• If you are going somewhere and see a black cat it is considered as a very bad omen.

• Nails should not be cut in the night for fear of evil spirits.

• If you see a family member leaving the house for some purpose, and happen to ask him or her "where are you going?" it is considered a bad omen.

• After a man's death, his widow should not wear colorful sarees or bindis on her forehead.

• Thursdays and Saturdays are not good for washing hair.

Cont..• If you see an elephant on your way while going

somewhere, your purpose of going will be fruitful. It is believed that Lord Ganesh, the elephant God of Indian mythology, removes all the obstacles on the way.

• If you notice a crow cowing near your house you are likely to get visitors to your house.

• Eating sweet curd before exams brings good luck.• If the girl's horoscope is matching well with the boy's

horoscope, when they get married, they will have a successful married life.

• A horseshoe hung in the bedroom will keep nightmares away.

• Seeing a peacock on a journey is also considered lucky.• If a mirror in the house falls and breaks by itself,

someone in the house will die soon.• If somebody is leaving home for the day's work and

you sneeze thrice, it’s a bad omen.• The sitting of an owl over the house-top is a sure sign

of approaching ruin and destruction.• If the left eye of a woman twitches it is not good, and

the right eye twitching for a man is also not good. • Walking under a ladder is considered a bad luck.

EFFECTS

• If something goes right it becomes our luck.

• If something goes wrong it becomes bad luck for us and we become superstitious.

• It ends our self confidence.

• Life is influenced by the belief in superstitions.

• Many decisions are changed.

Cont...• Our thinking and working power gets paralyzed under the

influence of unknown fears.

• Consult priests,pandits, astrologers and others.

• Use other 'mantras' and spells or wear rings to avoid evil forces.

CONCLUSION• If something goes right it becomes our luck.

• If something goes wrong it becomes bad luck for us and we become superstitious.

• It is an undesirable part of our life.

• Cure for unnecessary superstitions is education and awareness.

• We should develop our reasoning power.

• To avoid this superstition we have to believe on our self not on these things because human make its own destiny by his/her hard work that they do in their life.
