Introduction

Let yourself be taken on a magical journey trough the bizarre but beautiful land of Aegeia. Help the characters and creatures of the land regain harmony and to find the lost Harp of Hebe. Solve puzzles, riddles and tests of wit and creativity on your way trough the enchanted land.

You fall into a magical pond that takes you flying trough a vortex of time and space. When you open your eyes you are standing in a weird, surrealistic but beautiful landscape. You stand on a grassy knoll of almost light blue grass, the sun is shining in a bizarre pink-yellow sky and you hear the wind lightly sweeping the surroundings.

Beside you is a blossoming Sakura tree. To your amazement the blossoming flowers are caught by the wind and travel straight up in the air! On one of the branches a white owl sits and looks at you with big curious eyes. Suddenly the owl starts to speak.

”Welcome! You are in the land of Aegeia”, says the owl. ”You came just as we needed you! We have summoned you here to find the Great Harp of Hebe. It was lost in a mysterious magical storm. Without it the land of Aegeia will soon plunge into discordia, un-harmony! Please, will you help us?”

Interface elements • The Diary in which you get to save your composed poetry, and also the ones you have completed by filling in the blanks

• The Music box, in which you get to save your recordings of natural sounds, and also the tunes you had to compose to solve riddles

• The Guide is you mentor, helper and friend as you explore the land of Aegeia. He will help you with the puzzles if you get stuck.

Examples of poetry riddles you solve:

1. You need to fill the blanks in the following piece of poetry that you find on a paper curled and tied with a thread to an aging old willow. You unfold the paper and read it, where you pause at the blank:

And haply a ____ with a luring call Summoned their feet to tread

From your observations of the environment around you detect the 'luring call' must be the bell hung from the lost sheep's neck.

2. In a prior stage you could have been faced with the same poetry of which you had a blank to fill:

And haply a bell with a luring _____Summoned their feet to tread

Where in the previous piece you detect that the blank is call since he saw the shepherd calling for his lost sheep

3. When you turn around the tree you find another curled paper hung of different kind. You unfold it and need to rearrange the scattered words to compose something new.

Background

• Inspiration from games like Myst and Riven as well as surreal, spatial puzzle games like the Dr. Brain game series.

• Technological platform: newest version of the e.g. Unreal Engine, Quake Engine or Elder Scrolls: Oblivion 3D engine are able to reproduce organic, natural scenes in real-time 3d. The pace of movement in the 3d world can be lowered.

• Artistic inspiration from various sources like e.g. Impressionistic painting, old Japanese silk prints, fairy tales, haiku-poetry etc.
