SECTION -1: Introduction to OER
Overview of OER:
The Open Education Resource on “Data Mining Functionalities” is a Moodle integrated Flipped
Class Room Out-of-Class and In-Class Activity Design, consisting of Lessons and Quizzes
useful for acquiring knowledge on
What is Data mining (DM)????
DM functionality-1 : Classification
DM functionality-2 : Cluster analysis

Learning Objectives:
After using this OER, Learner will be able to
Understand what is Data Mining and its functionalities
Differentiate Supervised and UnSupervised Learning methods
Construct decision tree based classifier for any real time data set
Analyze K-means clustering for a set of data objects
The above cited learning objectives are concept specific and measurable through the lesson
and LbD (Quiz) activities. Content, Technology and pedagogy that we used in creating the
resource are constructively aligned with the learning objectives

SECTION -2: DESIGN DECISIONS
Design decisions made in the process of creating OER are broadly classified onto
1. Pedagogy decisions
2. Content decisions
3. Technology decisions
1. Pedagogy decisions: Active teaching-learning methodology used in this OER is FLIPPING
THE CLASS ROOM by following the below procedure….
Flipped Class Room consists of 2 parts
Out-of-Class Segment: Home assignment is given to the learner to learn the concept at
lower cognitive levels. This includes listening to the provided videos and attempting the
assessment quizzes. they are designed particularly for creating an interest to the learner
to complete the task before coming to the class.
In –Class Segment: This activity is implemented by taking classroom as main learning
platform.
Students are encouraged to participate in the Peer Instruction through which
they might recall the concept they have learnt outside the class
Think-Pair-Share activity which covers higher cognitive level of understanding
such as create, develop or implement etc. Students work as a group in the class to
come up with the final model or solution to the given problem
2. Content decisions: Content decisions are
Data mining functionalities such as classification and clustering
Decision tree induction in classification
K-means algorithm in clustering
Assessment quizzes
3. Technology decisions: Technologies and tools used in designing the OER are as follows…
www.Youtube.com to search for the videos (Creative commons Licensed) with <10
mins. Duration on classification and cluster analysis in data mining
https://www.gnomio.com/ to create MOODLE LESSON activity. Lessons are designed
for flipped classroom Out-of-Class and In-class segments.
MOODLE QUIZ(Multiple-Choice type) activity is used to develop quiz questions for
assessment.
https://wordpress.com/ used to design web-site through which OER moodle link and
login credentials to access the moodle content are shared for the purpose of reuse or build
new Open Educational Resource of the same kind.

Step 9:
Go to Edit and select the previous page “UPDATE PAGE” option to link this new page with the
previous one
Step 10: Goto Content1->jump-> DataMining Functionalities page for linking and Save page

Step 11: Goto Preview and ensure that pages are linked properly
Step 12: Repeat the above steps (step 5 to step 10) to add some more content pages if necessary
and link them using JUMP option in the Content page
STEPS TO CREATE QUIZ –MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS
Step 13: Adding Quiz Questions
Step 13.1 : Choose Questions option from the Actions

Provide Page title and Content as you see in the above image
Provide Answer1 as below. For correct answer score must be 1, Wrong answer score
value is 0
Here is the Question
Wrong answer

Follow the same procedure for setting the remaining answers
Then Save page
Step 13.4: Now link this question page to the previous page by following steps 9 and 10.
This is how we create Lesson with linked content pages and question pages
How to use this OER in teaching-learning process: This OER is useful for two
categories of people
Category 1: Learners or students of the class to learn the concepts:
Learner who already registered for the course can access the moodle account directly.
Otherwise use the above mentioned testuser ids to gain access
Goto DataWarehousing and Mining-> Unit1->Flippedclassroom Out-of-Class Segment
Click on Lesson1-> listen to the video and attempt quiz which is of type multiple-choice
Once the end of lesson1 is reached, come back to the main page
Click on Lesson 2-> listen to the video and attempt quiz which is of type multiple-choice.
Category 2: Facilitators ( Best practice guide lines)
This OER is mainly consisting of Flipped classroom Out-of-Class Segment
Facilitator creates Lesson activity, which includes videos to the related topics followed
by LbD activities.
Give the instructions to students to complete the lesson activity and LbD activity two
days before start of in-class segment. Also give some marks weightage to encourage the
student to complete the task
Check the reports of the students to see how they performed
Flipped classroom In-Class Segment:
It is advised to conduct Peer-Instruction at the beginning to bring forth the
misconceptions and resolve them
Engage the students at higher cognitive levels such as create, develop and implement
using Think-Pair-Share active learning methodology

SECTION 4- Evaluating the Effectiveness of OER
Effectiveness of Open Educational Resource can be evaluated at two levels
Learner level
Facilitator Level
Effectiveness at Learner level
OER effectiveness at learner level can be verified as follows….
Videos : Number of views to the videos
Moodle Quizzes : Moodle shows the record of all those who have attempted the quiz
After the successful completion of Out-of-Class activity, learner can provide the feedback
through structured template it has been provided directly in the wordpress website
Feedback form for learners
5-Strongly Agree, 4-Agree, 3-Neutral, 2-Disagree, 1-Strongly Disagree
Criteria 5 4 3 2 1
The videos were easy to access
The videos helped in learning about the
concepts
The activities linked with videos could
make more prominent learning at
remember, understanding and apply level
The concepts taken were completely
covered through videos and activities
The instructions provided for attempting
quiz were very clear
Effectiveness at consumer level
OER effectiveness at facilitator level can be reviewed by taking the feedback survey from the
individuals who have utilized this OER. This survey can be linked on the wordpress site itself,
with the goal that whosoever gets to the site for accessing resources can give the feedback.
OER ON FLIPPING THE CLASSROOM WITH MOODLE Page 14
1. Feedback Survey for the consumer is as follows….
Please provide your Email Id: -------------------------------------
University affiliation : -----------------------------
Educational domain : ------------------------------
5-Strongly Agree, 4-Agree, 3-Neutral, 2-Disagree, 1-Strongly Disagree
Criteria 5 4 3 2 1
The resources were easy to access
(website, videos and activities)
Learning objectives are constructive and
measurable
The guide lines given for creation of
OER are clear.
The learning videos are effective
Links provided in the lesson activity are
easy to open.
Quiz activity linked to videos are of
useful and create greater learning among
students
2. Alternative way of getting feedbacks to evaluate effectiveness of OER is to
Communicate with the consumer through E-mail ids and get the feedback.
