Who Is Ready forSome Football??
We had a blast at our Belmont“Take Me Out to the Ballgame”party, but now it is time to ditchthe baseballs for footballs! Ialways dread the end of collegefootball because I know that therewill be long hot months beforethe games kick off again.
In referencing “Uncle John’s 7Weird NFL facts,” I thought Iwould share a few of the bizarretrivia facts.
What do running back WalterPayton and wide receiver DavidPatten have in common? Theyboth rushed for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass, andthrew a touchdown pass ... all inthe same game in 1979 and 2001,respectively.
World War II diminished theranks of players in the NFL to sucha degree that teams had totemporarily merge. In 1943, thePittsburgh Steelers merged with
the Philadelphia Eagles; in 1944,the Steelers merged with theChicago Cardinals.
In the last scoreless game inNFL history, the Detroit Lions andNew York Giants ended in a 0-0tie. That was in 1943.
Who had the worst game inNFL history? It might be JimHardy. During the first game ofthe 1950 season, the ChicagoCardinals quarterback threw eightinterceptions—still an NFL record.
Of the NFL’s 32 teams, 28 havemade it to a Super Bowl. Fourremain: the Houston Texans, theJacksonville Jaguars, the DetroitLions and the Cleveland Browns.Of those four, however, Houston,Jacksonville and Detroit have allhosted a Super Bowl, leavingCleveland the only NFL city tonever experience Super Bowlglory.
I hope your favorite team has agreat season!
I know for a fact I will be infront of the TV or in the stands atBryant-Denny stadium for everyAlabama Crimson Tide footballgame! Roll Tide!!
Happy September and don’tforget to join us for Chef Vinny’slast cookout of the year on LaborDay. He will have an incrediblespread for our residents andfamilies!

DISCOVERIESCompliments of the Left-Handed
Nobody has counted them all,but studies suggest between10%-30% of the worldpopulation is left-handed. Thereare some famous lefties: BarackObama, Bill Gates, OprahWinfrey, Noel Gallagher andPrince William. They even havetheir own day!
According to studies,left-handed males who have goneto university earn 13% more thantheir right-handed counterparts. However, left-handed womenearn 5% less than theircounterparts.
Lefties may beunder-represented in humans butour furry friends are more thanmaking up for it. Around 50% ofcats are left-handed, accordingto research.
In many Islamic countries, people are forbidden to eat withtheir left hand, which isconsidered “unclean” because it isused for cleaning the body aftergoing to the loo. Apparently“public display” or use of the lefthand is also against the law insome Islamic countries, includingSaudi Arabia.
According to a study, lefties livearound nine years less than theirright-handed counterparts.Hmmm ... unlucky L.
South-paws are more prone to
have allergies and migraines, andresearch suggests that they are alsomore likely to become alcoholics. It’s because the right side of thebrain has a lower toleranceto alcohol.
Lefties are better at multi-tasking and make especially goodsportsmen—Rafael Nadal andCesc Fàbregas are ones. And leftiesalso tend to be drawn to careers inthe arts, music and culture fields.
They are better at 3Dperception and thoughtprocessing. Tests conducted byNew York researchers found thatthere were more left-handedpeople with IQs over 140 thanright-handed people. Famousleft-handed intellectuals includeAlbert Einstein, Isaac Newton,Charles Darwin and BenjaminFranklin.
Leaders in history are morelikely to be left-handed. U.S.presidents to be left-handedinclude current leader BarackObama and former White Housechiefs Bill Clinton, George Bushand Gerald Ford. Lefties in theBritish royal family include theQueen Mother, Queen ElizabethII, Prince Charles and PrinceWilliam.
