Paid Internships in STEM, Hands-on opportunities in Minnesota Business
Abstract: Becky Siekmeier of the Minnesota High Tech Association will present on paid internships in thescience, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines and answer questions about theSciTechsperience internship program. This paid internship program connects talented college students inSTEM disciplines to rewarding hands-on opportunities in dynamic Minnesota businesses.
Augsburg student David Fowler was one of four students to participate in a SciTechsperience internshiplast year. David will be present to share his experience and help with the Q&A portion.
This presentation is hosted by the mathematics department but open to all interested students, staff andfaculty.

About the SciTechsperience Program
Eligible students must be:• In good academic standing (2.5+ GPA);• A college junior or senior (60 credits completed);• At least 18 years of age;• Currently enrolled and pursuing a qualifying science,
technology, engineering, or math degree.
Augsburg majors that are eligible include biology, chemistry,computer science, environmental studies, mathematics,management information science (MIS), and physics(including students doing pre-engineering).

Featured Senior: Tony Yang, 2015
Tony Yang is an international studentfrom Beijing, China, who came to theUnited States during his senior year ofhigh school. At Augsburg, he is asenior Mathematics and BusinessManagement double major and anMIS minor, currently undecided aboutwhether he would like to pursue anindustrial career or go to graduateschool. He is also an officer of the mathematics club,Unbounded. Last summer Tony worked on an URGO summerresearch project under the guidance of Prof. Gilsdorf. Theresearch topic was the effect of prize money distribution onthe effort and performance of professional alpine skiers.Tony's favorite math class was Discrete MathematicalStructures because, as he says, “It was fun.” Outside ofschool, Tony loves to play basketball with his friends duringhis free time, and he also enjoys looking at investments in thestock market. In the past, he also served as a mentor tointernational students. Way to go, Tony!
