Weed Instrument Co., Inc. d/b/a Ultra Electronics, Nuclear Sensors & Process Instrumentation (NSPI) is authorized by the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for the construction of Class I, 2 &3 vessels and piping systems as well
as Class I, 2 & 3 appurtenances. We are also an authorized Materials Organization. As such we can provide a variety of
thermowells in virtually any style and material. Commonly supplied wells are available in stainless steel. Other materials
such as Monel® and Hastelloy® are available.
Typical styles include standard and heavy duty in socket wells, threaded wells, fl anged wells and protection tubes. Standard
bore sizes are 0.260 inches and 0.386 inches. Weed also specialize in custom designs, such as taper tip fast response
thermowells.
Thermowells available as Commercial Grade or as part of a safety related assembly with a temperature sensor.
NSPI specializes in supplying RCC-M Classifi ed and Non-Classifi ed thermowells with Gl threads such as Type P, TI , T3 and R
All orders include a drawing of thermowell dimensions.

Weed Instrument is able to assist our customers with new thermowell design for their applications or reverse engineer
existing designs.
InstallationSocket welding types of wells are simple to install and are merely welded in to place. These wells fi t standard socket weld
couplings or fl anges. The resulting installation is clean and tight.
Threaded wells are made from materials that can readily be welded or brazed. The pipe thread provides the mechanical
strength, but often are welded or brazed for a seal. These wells are often installed in standard threaded couplings.
Flanged wells (other than Van Stone) consist of a well manufactured from bar stock then welded solidly to a top quality
fl ange. Standard construction uses a primary “J” groove weld and a bevel groove secondary weld. Both welds are machined
to produce a clean fi llet. This double welded construction eliminates the possibility of crevice corrosion since no open joints
are exposed from either inside or outside the installation}
