THE MONTH OF MAY SENIOR PASTOR’S ARTICLE
Pastor Francis L. Schroeder Holy Cross Lutheran—Nederland
Did you catch your breath from Holy Week and Easter? I do hope so because we have entered the month of May. It is a month I call the “SPRING DECEMBER.” Do you wonder why?
Do you remember what your schedule was like in December? Yes we had Advent services and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Services, but do you remember all the other activities you had? Uh huh, sure you do! Well, it will all be back again. This time end of the school year parties, closing programs, graduations, recognition events, awards ceremonies, and that is just scratching the surface too!
Here at Holy Cross we will have just as a busy schedule. We will have 8th Grade Confirmation, Mother’s Day Celebration, High School Senior Recognition, Early Childhood Education & Mother’s Day Out Closing Programs, Baptismal Service, High School Senior Night Out, plus all the regular scheduled activities.
Here is a twist to this December/May mirror months. On December 25th we celebrated the arrival of Jesus into this world but on May 29th we will remember Jesus’ departure on Ascension Day.
It is my prayer and deep hope for this month to be filled with joys and celebrations. Please take time to celebrate with those having milestones and graduations. Remember too the One who provides countless gifts and blessings to you. The One and the Only, the Lord God!
Blessed May to each of you!
Pastor Francis L. Schroeder

VOLUNTEEERS NEEDED TO ASSIST THE FOOD PANTRY
AND THE RE-SELL-IT SHOP AT TRINITY LUTHERAN IN PORT ARTHUR
YOUR ASSISTANCE IS WELCOMED IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS: 1) TRINITY LUTHERAN FOOD PANTRY is permitted to receive one pallet
of food per week, on Fridays, at the Southeast Texas Food Bank on MLK Blvd in Beaumont, near Lamar University. One full-sized pick up truck is needed. A fork lift will drop the shrink-wrapped pallet into the back of your truck and you will need to drive it to Trinity Lutheran in Port Arthur. If you are able to assist, please call Rosie Cabrera at 512-743-0696.
2) TRINITY LUTHERAN FOOD PANTRY is always looking for volunteers to help with food distribution on the 3rd Saturday of every month. If you can assist please call Rosie Cabrera at 512-743-0696. 3) TRINITY THRIFT STORE is looking for volunteers to serve. The hours are: Tuesday: 8:00 AM—11:30 AM Friday: 8:00 AM—11:30 AM Saturday: 8:00 AM—11:30 AM Please contact the Church Office at Trinity Lutheran at 409-983-1130.
Trinity Thrift Store As part of our mission work, the Churches of Circuit 34 help to support the Thrift Store at Trinity Lutheran in Pt. Arthur. Pastor Casillas meets people each Saturday who come to the Thrift Store & then visits with them to share the message about Jesus.
The Thrift Store sells any kind of items: clothing, fur-nishings, dishes, tools, etc. Be sure that all your unwanted items go to the Thrift Store.
The Thrift Store needs help from each congregation in Circuit 34. Members at Trinity have been operating the store, but because of some health issues they need help to operate the store.
Store hours are: Tuesday. Friday, &
Saturday 8-11:30 am
Call or email Trinity & let them know if you will work
that week. Trinity is easy to reach—get on Hwy 69 & go straight into Port Arthur, turn right on Procter & go 4 blks.
Thanks for your help!

Message from Pastor Seth
A blessed May to everyone! School is almost out for the summer! Hip Hip Hooray! We are
almost done! Or are we?!? I offer some interesting thoughts from the Verge Network…
You know how you feel when you’re watching a football game, and some guy’s running, and
he gets to about the three yard line, and he starts slowing up, to start celebrating? Then of course,
someone strips him from behind, you think, “Come on… really?” This is a false finish line. Don’t pull
up. We can’t especially when all of a sudden our ministry dreams come true. You can’t pull up, that’s
not the finish line.
The finish line, for us, is finishing the race. Keeping the faith. Exalting Jesus with our last
dying breath so that when our heart gives way we are saying, “To you alone, Jesus, be all the glory,
and all the honor, and all the praise, and all the dominion. To you, Jesus.”
That’s finishing. That’s the line, nothing short of it will do. That’s what death can do for you.
It can remind you that you keep serving, as a humble servant of God, because your finish line is
nothing short of your finishing the faith, in death. Or Jesus returning, whichever comes first.
Paul also says this, “I fought the fight.” I don’t think there’s anything like knowing that you’re
about to die to realize that faith is a fight. I don’t think there’s anything else like it. But you need to
remember that it is indeed, a fight. We shouldn’t think of the devil as one who is a silly cartoon
character with a pitch fork. He is real. He is trying to break you. He wants you to fall into the ways of
the world. Satan will take us out. As the scriptures say, he is like a roaring lion! Jesus reassures us in
our prayers… “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Amen for grace!
It would be unwise for us to safely walk around in places like Afghanistan and pretend as
if it’s a time of peace there. That would be unwise and imprudent. We would find ourselves
in trouble quickly.
When we begin to trifle with sin, it is a slippery slope, and at the bottom is an enemy who
wants to take us out. It does sound like scary language to speak of the devil’s work. The reality is,
the devil is at work. Brothers and Sisters… keep the faith! Finish the race! Go for the Gold! The
finish line is found at the end of this road in this life. We will be at rest in the grace of Christ soon
enough.
Blessings!
Pastor Davidson

cut…. sewed…. gave one last check and with a prayer a quilt was made.
They did this 12 times for 12 quilts all to benefit: ”Lutheran World Relief”.
