2nd, the Blood Mobile will

anyone who would like to
donate blood!
November 2nd is All Souls Day. There is no great-
er gift on this earth than the gift of the Mass for a
loved one that has passed away. The great St. Mon-
ica, before her death, asked her son, St. Augustine,
to remember her in his Masses. After the Maccabe-
an War, the Bible (2 Maccabees 12:39-46) explains
how the brothers Maccabee took up a collection,
sent it to Jerusalem and offered a sacrifice for the
dead, so that “they might be freed from their sins.”
On All Souls Day, we do the very same thing. We
offer the Sacrifice of the Mass so that our loved
ones may be freed from their sins and enter into
heaven. There is no greater gift of love you can
give a loved one than the gift of the Mass.
The All Souls Novena envelopes are in your Offer-
tory set or you can find them in the Church. The
Novena begins on Sunday, November 2nd at the
5:30 a.m. Mass. November is the month dedicated
to the memory of our deceased loved ones.

159. Why is the Church called the
temple of the Holy Spirit?
She is so called because the Holy
Spirit resides in the body which is
the Church, in her Head and in her members. He
also builds up the Church in charity by the Word
of God, the sacraments, the virtues, and char-
isms.
“What the soul is to the human body, the Holy
Spirit is to the members of Christ, that is, the
body of Christ, which is the Church.”
~ Saint Augustine
Please note that when you or your
loved one is admitted into the hospi-

you or your loved one would like to
be visited by a Priest please call the Parish Office to
inform us and give us the person’s name and room
number. We will do our best to get a Priest to see you
or your loved one as soon as possible.

A Letter from Our Bishop
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord:
The Catholic Campaign for Human Develop-
ment (CCHD) has come to the aid of communi-
ties nationwide for more than 40 years in an effort to eradi-
cate poverty. During World Youth Day, July 25, 2013, Pope
Francis told us to “never tire of working for a more just
world, marked by great solidarity.” As the official domestic
anti-poverty agency of the United States Conference of Cath-
olic Bishops, CCHD puts Pope Francis’ words into action
by funding housing, education, and the development of job
opportunities. You can help by giving to our diocesan spe-
cial collection which will take place November 8 and 9.
Projects supported by CCHD move beyond providing
for basic needs. They work to build healthy, sustainable fu-
tures for communities. Ten years ago, Boston’s Haley House
began offering bakery training at the request of a few regu-
lar guests at the soup kitchen. Experiencing a tremendous
demand, Haley House created a six-month course that in-
cludes customer relations and basic business principles. Ha-
ley House currently has 70 trainees who have completed the
program and are now employed in the Boston area.
Haley House also runs cooking classes for at-risk teens
and a Transitional Employment Program that provides ho-
listic, individual support to men and women re-entering the
community after incarceration. Haley House creates a
strong local economy by building human relationships; it
carries on Christ’s mission “to bring glad tidings to the
poor...liberty to captives...sight to the blind, to let the op-
pressed go free” (Lk 4:18).
This Collection is the primary source of funding for
CCHD’s anti-poverty grants and education programs. Col-
lection funds offer new hope each year to those living in pov-
erty throughout the Untied States. And remember, 25 percent
of the Collection’s proceeds stays here in our diocese to
fight poverty in our communities and defend the dignity of
our neighbors. Help us defend human dignity and show
Christ’s charity to those in need.
For more information about the Collection for the Cath-
olic Campaign for Human Development and the groups it
funds, please visit www.povertyusa.org.
With every prayerful wish, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito
Bishop of Palm Beach

is separated or divorced and
needs support?
St. Peter Catholic Church is please to announce a
ministry for men and women who have suffered from
divorce: The Catholic’s DIVORCE SURVIVAL Guide.

parenting, the ex-spouse, annulment, sexuality, spirit-
uality, finding peace, and more. Whether you are re-

you. The Catholic Church is not here to condemn but
to console and to help you find peace, power, and re-
newed passion for life. Please call the St. Peter Parish
office at 575-0837 for more information.

Men in Fellowship & PrayerMen in Fellowship & PrayerMen in Fellowship & Prayer
Have you lost a loved one who passed away, or know someone who has? Prayers for souls in
purgatory can help them! While we can derive great comfort from the hope that our loved ones
are enjoying Eternal Life with God, it never hurts to pray for their souls in any case. In purga-
tory, the souls of many of those who have died in God’s grace undergo purification so that
they may enter heaven. The Prayer of St. Gertrude, below, is one of the most famous of the
prayers for souls in purgatory. St. Gertrude the Great (pictured at right) was a
Benedictine nun and mystic who lived in the 13th century. Our Lord showed St.
Gertrude a vast number of souls leaving Purgatory and going to Heaven as a result of this prayer,
which the Saint was accustomed to saying frequently during the day.
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the
masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners every-
where, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
