. amped with the name, of the person uponwhom the burglary waa committed. After thearrest Officers Nipson and Kenny recovereda large number of the stolen shoes and bootsla a house on Percy street. larceny subsequently committed in this city.The Atlanta officers .returned to Columbia last

attempt was made on Sunday by some un¬

known parties to throw a passenger train on

the Savannah and Charleston Railroad fromthe track, at SaUkahatchie bridge, by layingseveral bars of railroad Iron across the trackIn a manner that would certainly have precipi¬tated the engine, and perhaps the whole train,Into the river. Fortunately, the obstructionswere observed by the engineer In time to stopthe train and remove them. Proper measures
