Kindergarten Orientation Morning Tea
Parents of children starting Kindergarten in 2020
are invited to attend an information session and
morning tea this Wednesday 20th from 9:00 to
10:00am, in preparation for the upcoming start to
schooling for their children.
Information about school and learning in
Kindergarten will be provided, as well as a
delicious morning tea.
We will also be treated to a special performance
by the Transition class!
Attendance Rewards
On Friday 36 children received attendance
rewards. Canteen vouchers are given out every 5
weeks for children who have been away or late to
school less than 2 days in the previous 5 weeks.
Being on time and at school every day is very
important for every child’s academic and social
development.
Air Quality
As the recent bushfires have left a blanket of
smoke across our region, we are taking measures
to limit exposure to the smoke during break times.
Decisions are made on a daily basis depending on
conditions as to whether children will stay indoors
or play outside. PE and sport lessons are also
being rescheduled due to air quality.
We are trying as much as possible to keep
routines as normal and offering alternate play
arrangements for any child with respiratory
concerns.
Quart-Ed Concert
Today we will host a vibrant string quartet of
music educators at your school in a free concert
for all students to supplement our music education
program.
Quart-Ed is a string quartet of music education
students from the Sydney Conservatorium, visiting
NECOM and Armidale. The group provides
immersive and meaningful musical experiences,
with active audience participation, as a string
quartet. They have a repertoire from various styles
of music, including jazz, pop, film, and classical.
Swim School
Swim School notes were sent home last week.
The cost was reduced to $50 per student as we
have compressed the program into the 7 days the
instructors and pool were available. The cost is to
cover pool entry and instructors’ fees for the
whole program with the overall cost being given a
40% subsidy by school.
We can to accept part payments/instalments up
until the start of the Swim School in about 3
weeks’ time. Please enquire at the office to
arrange such payment or, if necessary, contact
me directly if you have any concerns.
Only students who have paid in full will be able to
participate.
We hope that majority of our students are able to
take advantage of this excellent program.
Star Awards
“You’re a Star Award” certificates were presented
at this morning’s assembly to successful students
who have been using the You Can Do It keys to
success and demonstrating persistence,
resilience, organisation, getting along and
confidence.
Congratulations to our recipients: Isabella,
Lincoln , Chloe, Dante, Lucas, Holly and Montana.

News From 3/4 As part of our literacy unit this term, we have been
discussing the way illustrators use colour to represent mood
and emotions. The students are very confident identifying
the feelings of a character based on the colours and
colouring techniques used by the illustrator and this gives
them deeper understanding of the messages being portrayed
– as the saying goes “a picture speaks a thousand words”.
The students attempted to use colour to reflect their chosen
emotion. They did incredibly well at demonstrating their
understanding.
1/2 News
News from 5/6
Kindergarten News
Kindergarten have been challenging themselves with STEM activities on Fridays. This weeks challenge was to make a boat that would carry a plastic toy animal. We had to make the boat out of a variety of materials.
Result - some our bouts floated and others needed some adjustments, so they would carry weight.
We loved exploring materials, and had an exciting time making them.
Kids talking… nothing special, right? But what about
when they have to pre-plan their ‘talking’ for an
audience of their peers, make it last at least 1 minute,
pose their own personal opinions, back up their
claims, make eye contact, speak clearly and slowly….
AND be marked by their teachers and one of their
classmates? Not so easy now!
Stage 3 students were required to plan a speech
about one of the characters from their novel ‘The
Thief Lord’ and what a job they did!!
Last Friday Year 1/2 hosted the last Awards Gathering for
2019. We sang ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis
Armstrong and signed it in Auslan sign language, as we are
studying ‘Around the World’. So far we have visited the
continents of Europe, Antarctica, Africa and we are
currently in Asia.
A huge congratulations to all award winners.
