/ Introduction
LA and Valley residents have long
held a special, nostalgic place in
their hearts for The Sportsmen’s
Lodge because of its seminal role in
the lives of Old Hollywood “royalty”
as they emerged on the world stage,
and because of its heritage
of welcoming locals, celebrities,
and rock n’ roll acts alike.
The original lodge opened its
doors in 1880, and thrived with
its central proximity to the San
Fernando Valley’s rivers, canyons,
and watering holes. As Studio
City grew up around The
Sportsmen’s Lodge, many film
crew and cast made the lodge
their unofficial hangout.
The lodge’s rich history reads
like a classic Hollywood movie
script: rural attraction frequented
by local farmers and their
families soon finds itself at the
center of a burgeoning film
industry and hang-out of choice
for newly minted celebrities
such as Clark Gable, Bette Davis,
John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart,
Lauren Bacall, Spence Tracy,
and Katherine Hepburn.
The lodge was home to
Hollywood Trout Farms fishing
lake where celebrities and locals
alike enjoyed a unique, “bait-
to- plate” dinner featuring your
freshly prepared catch.

Over the past decade, Studio City
has become a popular shopping
destination not only of the Valley,
but of the greater LA area because
it is easily accessible from both
Hollywood and the Westside, and
is connected to all of Los Angeles’s
major highways via the 101. Because
it is the logical path of travel for
most, destinations on Ventura Blvd.
are particularly frequented.
A mix of national and local
merchants have been drawn to the
Valley with hopes of reaching the
highly desirable consumer who lives,
works, and plays in this area.
With its convenient location, The
Shops at The Sportsmen’s Lodge
offers a more relevant, compelling,
and pedestrian-friendly environment
for distinctive concepts looking for a
brand-appropriate home in the Valley.
