Priests, Deacons, Religious and Parishes:
Our country is again in turmoil. It does not take a long
walk back in history to the days of persecution of Catholic
immigrants, the KKK’s attacks on African-Americans, Jews
and Catholics even here in Iowa), the witch hunts for
“errant beliefs” of the McCarthy era, to see the parallels to
today’s unrest, the pitting of one group against anoth-
er. Today, our instant communications and the ability to
provide opinions, facts, slogans, and disingenuous
material at a rate that makes it difficult assess the value or
integrity of what we hear and see adds to the
turmoil. Recognizing the need to end the turmoil, the
violence, the acts contrary to the life and dignity of all as
creations of God, the president of the U.S. Conference of
Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has invited all dioceses across
the country to unite in a Day of Prayer for Peace in Our
Communities on Sept. 9, the feast of St. Peter Claver.

Congratulations on another fantastic parish family effort for
the Fall Festival! The support and willingness to pitch in and
also to have a good time was so evident and pervasive in
these last few weeks. Hopefully everyone who attended had
a good time, whether they were family, friends, or new faces.
Thank you to all who put their time, talents and resources
towards making this years festival a success.
