Dear Community of St. Augustine,
This weekend, the parable of St. Matthew’s Gospel (Mt 21:28-32) continues the same teaching of last Sunday: “The last ones will be the first, and the first will be last.”
This time, Jesus addresses the high priests and the elders and, as an example, presents us a Father asking two of his sons to go to work in his vineyard. One son says yes but does not keep his word; the other says no but repents and goes to work in the vineyard. Which one did the Father’s will?
In this parable, the owner of the vineyard is God, the “vineyard” is His Church and the world, and we are the sons. He asks us to go to work in the “vineyard”, to help Him, to make the Kingdom of God a reality in this world; but to do that, my dear brothers and sisters, we not only have to say yes, we must act and do it. With humility and a simple heart, we should repent of our sins and live a life of grace to be witnesses of the Lord with our words and our good deeds.
Let us reflect: How are we helping the Lord? Are we doing God the Father’s will? What work can we do in His “vineyard”?
In his Letter to the Philippians (Phil 2:1-5) St. Paul exhorts us: to be “of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but (also) for those of others. Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus”.
What a beautiful advice for the Christian Community! How important this message is for us Christians! To build up the community, to change the world, to work in His “vineyard” we must be another Christ Jesus. What do you think?
May the Lord help us to feel and to act like Him.
Have among yourselves the same attitude
that is also yours in Christ
Jesus.
(Phil 2:5)
Tengan los mismos
sentimientos que tuvo
Cristo Jesús.
