Strong Season for Boys´ Lacrosse
It has been a good season of progress for the boys’ lacrosse team under the fitness coaching
of leader Ben Deverell and the term three strategic and game play support of coach Vaughan
Thompson. The team, with its highest fitness levels ever, won their final pool play game to
win a position in the playoffs for top four in the Auckland region, finally coming 3rd after a
win over Orewa. They also had wins over St Peters College and Mount Albert Grammar in a
recent mini tournament. The skill and performance of Ben Deverell our top scorer was also
recognised by his selection for the U18 New Zealand Squad, travelling to Adelaide to
represent NZ this year.
Sports Award Evening
Once again students, staff and guests were privileged to celebrate the sporting endeavour and
prowess of individuals and teams in our annual sports awards. The evening opened with a
focus on our special presenter adventurer and motivational speaker Kevin Biggar and then
the event moved to the award of colours in the many sporting codes. As each code was
mentioned we were reminded of the success and commitment of all our sportsmen and
women in 2015. The climax of the evening was the announcement of the top awards which
fittingly recognized the sporting talent at Roskill.
More Lacrosse Rep Honours
Earlier this term a number of students from our Lacrosse girls’ team were selected for the
Auckland development squad and we have heard this week that Breearna Johnson and
Emma Thompson have been selected for the U15 NZ national team. Congratulations to the
girls and we wish them well for their forthcoming representative games.
Girls Rugby Promising Season
There has been great success in Rugby for MRGS over the past term with many teams vying
for places in the finals of their respective competitions. However, the MRGS Girls 10s side
have been a revelation this year as they were undefeated in competition games and competed
in the final of the Auckland Secondary Schools Girls 10s competition against Tangaroa
College. Although they were beaten by Tangaroa despite a strong second half - the girls
through their collective hard work on and off the field the side has had a tremendous season
and this has further been acknowledged in the selection of 5 of the team for the Auckland
Central/West U18 Girls side Toru Arakua, Keikilani Roberts, Malia Logopoa, Maria
Fruean & Summer Kapsin, with Kelly Folau on stand by. This is an outstanding
achievement for these girls and they have brought pride and success to MRGS and the Rugby
community. It is important to acknowledge also the hardwork of parent/coach Tillam
Kapsin, the support of Mrs McNaughton, Ms Ma, and current manager Mr Sua. In addition
Toru Arakura has also been selected for the Cook Island sevens youth Commonwealth
games and the Auckland Vulcan senior woman’s league team.
1st XV Retain Crowe Shield
The rugby 1stXV remain as holders of the Crowe Shield after a convincing 36-21 win over
Marcellin College. In 2014, after a five year gap the Rugby Challenge Shield inaugurated by
the Crowe family was finally regained by MRGS. The shield competition to honour the rugby
rivalry between ourselves and Marcellin college dates back to 1980 and over the years has
moved between the two schools as games have been won and lost. It was formally awarded to
1stXV Captain in a school assembly.
A Grade Championship Win for Badminton
Team
In an A grade competition of 14 teams, Roskill A1 had an unbeaten season including wins
over the top teams from St Peters and Mt Albert, and beat Macleans, 4 games to 2 in the final.
It was close and intense, with Roskill gaining the initiative by Hasnain Cheena winning the
number one singles 21-20!
The team was Hasnain Cheena ( captain), Shreshta Dyavadi , Zion Tse , Asif Cheena, and
John Seo.
Football 1st XI Wins Promotion to Premier
Grade
In their final game of the season the boys’ 1stXI football team fought a hard-earned draw
with Glendowie to take the A1 grade competition. This first place gives MRGS entry next
season to the Premier grade and marks a milestone of ambition for football at Roskill and the
success of the coaching/mentoring ‘Being Roskill’ scheme. The team, with only one loss all
season in their competition, were worthy winners - with a total of 35 points, one ahead of St
Peters, who have been their chasing rivals all season. This last tight game provided a nail-
biting final 90 minutes for the large crowd gathered on the bank and pitch edges and as the
final whistle blew the realisation of and jubilation for a return to the premier grade after a 15
year absence was witnessed as crowds sought to congratulate the team members.
Lacrosse Representative Honours
In the tradition of Excellence and involvement in sports we congratulate a number of our
girls’ lacrosse players who received news this week of Provincial representative honours -
Kayla Brown, Jenny Chung, Ray Cruz, Anna Greaves, Amrutha Murphy, Emma
Thompson, Zaynia Ram, Lauren van Laarhaven-Hargreaves have been named in the
Auckland U15 development squad. In addition Bree Johnson is named in the Auckland U15
A team and Kristine Canete will be playing for either U15 team, or U18 development squad
as goalie.
Most of these girls have only played one season (apart from Bree and Emma), so it is
exciting to have them represent Auckland in a National tournament on 12th/13th September.
Cross Country
Our annual whole school cross country day was held on Thursday 13th August and the
weather was kind affording perfect conditions for everyone to be involved in the house
competition. Students from all year levels made their way around a local course and earned
points for their house.

Term 2 Sports Update
As always term 2 has been hectic as our busiest season gets underway. All teams put a huge
effort into their pre-season training and this showed with great results.
Thank you to the coaches, managers, parents, caregivers and supporters for enabling sport to
happen for our students. They might not always thank you for your involvement, but the
connections and memories they make during their sporting conquests will be one of the long
standing things they take away from MRGS.
In light of recent events around New Zealand on the sporting sidelines, it is important to
ensure that all teams are supported positively. We welcome support from parents, caregivers,
family and friends – however all communication from the sidelines needs to support both
teams, celebrate your child’s success and be used to encourage them to continue giving their
best when they are challenged with difficult situations.
We have launched a MRGS Sport Facebook page that keeps our community updated with
what is happening with our sports teams, recent photos, team successes and individual
accomplishments. To keep in the loop with all things sport ‘like’ the page.
Thank you to the kind generosity of our sponsors this year, please support them with your
custom. Our sponsors are Fletcher Living, Libelle Group – Champion Tuck Shops, Barfoot
and Thompson, Pak N Save Royal Oak, McDonalds.
Badminton
This season we have had 12 teams competing with great results across the board and a 60%
win ratio. The Open A and B teams are into finals of their competitions. The Tuesday C girls
and Thursday C girls both finished second in their grades. The Thursday D2 team won their
grade. Our top teams playing on
Friday nights have been outstanding. The A1 Open team are currently unbeaten after 6 pool
games and are playing off for 1st place against Macleans next term. Thank you to all of the
staff members involved with these teams and all the best to Mr Dix who takes a well earned
sabbatical next term.
Basketball
The Under 19 Open Boys team has had their work cut out for them this term. Facing a
number of injuries and the absences of key players representing NZ overseas in other codes,
their depth has been tested. The team has managed to win four from seven and have two
matchups against opponents placed lower in
the current standings to finish the season. With a full squad returning next term
the team hopes to achieve the top four placing required to advance to the next
round.
The Under 19A Boys team have found this grade challenging losing 6 of its 7 games although
many games have been close losses. The U19B Boys are competing well in this grade
winning 3 of their 7 games.
The Under 17 Boys are currently playing in the top U17 grade and doing well. All of
this team except one will be able to return next year. They have played 6 and won 3.
The Under 15 Boys are undefeated after 7 games and have an average winning margin of just
over 40 points per game. Parental support for this team has been great as too have the
improvements in skill and tactical awareness from all players.
Boys Football
The 1st XI Boys are unbeaten in the league still and sit top of the table. Highlights were the
boys dispatching rivals Kelston 4-2 and St Peters 4-0. They need to keep collecting 3 points
as the championship will no doubt go down to the wire. The Year 13 leadership group have
been outstanding, ably supported by the handful of Year 12’s and Year 11’s.
The 2nd XI and 3rd XI Boys teams have qualified to play in the same grade on Saturday
mornings. The 3rd XI are currently 1st with 3 wins from as many games and the 2nd XI are
4th. The 4th XI Boys are enjoying playing in a very competitive grade and improving their
skills as they go.
Developing individual players to break into the 1st XI as early as possible is one of the key
goals of the Boys Football Academy. Two players, Mustafa Sheikh and Fardeen Faheem,
have already made their debuts for the 1st XI despite being only 13 years old. Team
development is also progressing, with some good results against Premier League schools. The
boys had a 3-2 win over Sacred Heart College and drew with Mt Albert and Saint Kentigern.
The players are highly motivated and are developing their literacy skills alongside their
football.
We have two Boys 13th grade teams playing on Saturday mornings. The 13B2 team is
currently 4th equal and the 13B1 team are 7th.
Girls Football
The 1st and 2nd XI Girls have had a very good term, with both teams sitting in the
top 3 of their pool going into playoffs. Both teams have scored a number of goals to date; the
1st XI having scored 18 from 7 games, and the 2nd XI scoring 37 goals from 8 games with
one highlight being a 12-0 win against Onehunga. The 3rd XI have had fun, scored some
goals and improved their football skills greatly.
Hockey
The Girls 1st XI team have continued their success in 2015. The team is currently
in a good position in the Supercity 2 grade after narrowly missing out on a place
in Supercity 1, (beaten by Kings on penalty strokes). With a mix of experience
and inexperience, the girls are growing from strength to strength each and every week.
Highlights of the season so far have been the inclusion of Virginia Payne in the Auckland
Under 18 team and a 6th place finish in the Auckland competition.
The Boys 1st XI has had a rocky start to the season with many of the team not having played
in the 1st XI grade before. After being dealt two 10-0 losses from power houses Kings and
Auckland Grammar, the team have come to the realisation of what is required of top level
hockey. They have come together to form greater connections and stronger bonds that have
been portrayed both on and off the turf. A few highlights of the year have been the selection
of Anirudh Bhatnagar and Parneet Kohli into the Auckland Under 18 team and a 3-1 team
win over Kings 2nd XI.
Both Hockey Academy teams are doing well this season. The Boys team, coached by Mr
Hays are currently in 1st equal place in their grade. The Girls Academy, coached by Roskill
Eden Hockey Club player Josefina Maratea is in 1st place in their grade. They have scored a
whopping 39 goals in 5 games.
Lacrosse
The Girls Lacrosse season has been fantastic! The Gold team is currently the top of their
pool, while the Blue team are third. Semi finals are early next term, and if the girls continue
to play as they have been we hopefully will take out the Division. Thank you to JC and
Nikita for coaching, and Cameron Bell and Ben Deverell for refereeing. The girls have
created a terrific culture and are determined to win.
Netball
After a very gruelling preseason and multiple trials a team of 11 was named in the 2015
Premier team: Sapphire Sami Kareroa (co-captain) Anna Laufoli (co-captain), Helen
Meni Soka, Tania Bryan, Rheon Maiava, Vanessa Thong, Muna Taunga, Talalei
Tualima, Katana Fruean, Jolynne Kaleopa and Tabitha Kilisimasi - a late addition due to
injury.
The team started strong and held their own during grading for a spot in the Premier grade
with a highlight being a convincing win over King’s College after previously losing to them
in a practice game the week before.
Unfortunately we just missed out on a spot in the Premier grade after losing our last grading
game to One Tree Hill. Despite this the team set their goal high aiming to take out Senior A
grade and with consistency, structure and grit this is definitely achievable. Onwards and
upwards!
The development of all players has been the focus for the other four Netball teams.
Regardless of the results the girls never give up and that is promising for the future. Thank
you to our student coaches that are taking junior teams. We are grateful for the sacrifice of
their time to share the knowledge and passion they have for the game. A big thank you to Ms
Ma for her involvement in Netball this year and all the best in your new school.
Rugby
The 1st XV are currently playing for the 1B Plate after a tough first half of the season.
Highlights have been recent wins over Pukekohe High School and Edgewater College.
The 2nd XV continue to play quality rugby under the coaching of Michael Smith and Sagele
Palaamo, they currently have 4 wins with the most recent a 27-5 win over top of the table
Dilworth.
The 3rd XV have entered the competition late and continue to improve week by week and are
adding strength to the senior numbers playing rugby.
The Under 15 team are currently top of their pool with a 24-0 resounding victory over One
Tree Hill College showing their commitment to playing great rugby.
Under 14/Rugby Academy
We have just completed the first semester and it has been quite successful in terms of
sustainability, progress and achievement. We have managed to hold onto 41 out of 42 players
since the start of the year. The skill level has certainly improved quite noticeably and the
boys U14 Rugby team has won 5 out of 7 competition games so far, putting them in 2nd
place in their grade.
Girls Rugby
Girls’ rugby has undoubtedly proved to be the true highlight so far this year. Under the
guidance of parent-coach Tillam Kapsin along with Ms Ma the Girls 10 a-side team are
undefeated whilst the U15 Sevens team have produced outstanding results in their
competition.
It is with great sadness that we farewell Ms Ma and also Mrs McNaughton who are both
leaving to further their careers. They have contributed a lot to Roskill Rugby over the years
and their contribution to our students will not be forgotten and the entire Rugby community
wishes them all the very best.
We are very pleased with the support that we are getting from our parents. It is a culture that
we hope to continue with in the future as the role parents do play is most valuable in terms of
motivational, supportive, and promotes our school values of whanaungatanga and
manaakitanga.
We look forward to a strong second half of the season for all of our teams.
Squash
The Senior Boys Squash team has played in the A grade this year and has learned a great deal
from the quality opponents we have played. Team unity has been very important to the
players. The team is made up of Rahul Patel, Jonathan Khoo, Naman Gupta and Ash
Chaudhary.
Trampolining Success
Madison Smith - our accomplished national trampolinist competed in the Australian
National Gymsports placing 1st with her set routine and 4th overall in the U17 women’s
event. Her Next big competition will be the New Zealand nationals in October when she will
be representing Auckland at junior international level.
Rhythmic Gymnastics Achievement
On Sunday 21st June Kate Bonnici completed in the Open B Grade Rhythmic Gymnastics
Auckland Championships at Sacred Heart College and was placed third in the event.
1st XI Boys Football - Top of Table
With one game remaining of this term’s fixtures our premier football team remains unbeaten
in its competition and sealed their position at the top of the table with a hard fought 4-2 win
against Kelston Boys - he other team in the grade with a high achieving record so far. The
Roskill team, despite some injuries in recent weeks to key forwards, has maintained its form
around Auckland and will move into the term 3 fixtures in a strong position - already having
played home and away games against key rivals. We wish them the best for the remainder of
the season and know that they will continue to strive for excellence each time they run out
onto the pitch.
Opening of the No.1 Football Field
After many months of anticipation our main football field was officially opened in a morning
ceremony led by local Kaumatua and attended by school leaders, Board members, staff,
students and representatives from Turftech - the grounds technicians who have delivered this
state-of-the-art playing surface for our school.
Groups gathered and were welcomed by Principal Greg Watson who then handed over to two
local kaumatua who dedicated the field and the success of those who will play on it - in
speeches and karakia. The attending party led by Head Prefect and 1stXI Boys Football
captain Glenn Lewis then blessed each of the four corners of the field before reassembling for
a closing prayer. The field area has been laser-levelled , re-laid and equipped with an
extensive drainage/irrigation
system and will provide the level of surface and performance to grace our top football teams.
In a fitting initial game on the following Saturday the 1st XI boys christened the turf with a
solid 3-0 win over Kristin School and since then the girls 1st Xl football team has also had
two wins in their games on the field.

Pukekohe Exchange
Our annual sports exchange with Pukekohe took place in June this term and as usual there
was strong competition and great sportsmanship. This is an opportunity for our Premier teams
to play opposition teams outside their normal geographical area and schools’ gradings. It also
gives a chance for some of the
junior teams to have a first taste of ‘travelling’ and representing MRGS further away from
home. The Roskill team was welcomed with a Powhiri in the main hall of Pukekohe before
changing and warming up for the first games. There were two rounds of games and after the
culmination of the final matches there was an after-match function with speeches which
celebrated the day’s sharing of skills. Unfortunately Pukekohe’s teams proved too strong on
the day and they were victorious in 6 of the ten games. Among our successes, however it was
good to see the 1stXV winning and our U19 Boys Basketball maintaining its winning form.
Roskill Results vs Pukekohe High School:
1st XI Boys Football drew 1-1
Netball Premier lost 28-34
1st XI Girls Football lost 1-3
Netball Y9 lost 9-34
1st XI Boys Hockey lost 0-2
Netball Y10 lost 13-41
1st XI Girls Hockey won 2-1
Junior Boys Football lost 0-5
1st XV Rugby won 24-21
U19 Boys Basketball won 59-14

Gymsports Australian Nationals
Madison Smith Came 1st in her set routine and finished 4th overall for the under 17
women's .
Her Next big comp is nationals which is in October, representing Auckland at junior
international level.
Well done Madison, these results reinforce how important commitment, dedication to
training and setting goals is for success.
Orienteering Success
2015 has been another successful season for Orienteering. The team competes in the Central
Zone of the Auckland Schools Sprint Series. This involves completing courses at schools
around Auckland on a weekly basis and the scores being accumulated for an overall score for
the series. After 5 events this year we had 7 students qualifying for the sprint finals which
took place on 28th March. The final was run over a morning course at Akoranga Campus
(AUT) and Carrington Unitec in the afternoon. Our top runners were Janita Fuller (7th
Senior Girls) and Felix Yang (5th Intermediate Boys) which are great results as Felix has
moved into the next age group this season and Janita is competing against girls who are in
the National Squad running for New Zealand. Both Janita and Felix are talented orienteers
and have been invited to be considered as members of the interim Squad for the Auckland
Regional team. Our other finalists did well all of them finishing in the top 25. Four of them
are Year 9 students and I look forward to them developing in the sport over their time at
Mount Roskill.
We also took 3 junior teams to the Sprint Relays at Totara Park on the 30th April. This is a
very popular event and there are some very serious competitors from orienteering teams as
well as school teams. Although unplaced all our students enjoyed the challenge of a longer
course that was run in more open countryside than that offered in the school grounds. They
also had to deal with the challenge of some severe rain and unleashed dogs but all agreed it
was a good experience.
Thanks as always to the staff and parents who support us and transport students to and from
events. Without this all of our students keen to compete would not get the opportunity.
Mahurangi Sports Exchange
Our Premier sports teams had a successful series of early season games in our annual sports
exchange with Mahurangi College. As ever the competition was challenging but the school’s
competed with their usual sportsmanship and respect. From the opening powhiri to the
closing speeches there was a spirit of friendship mixed with the rivalry of the day. Roskill
were victors in five of the six games played.
Roskill Results vs Mahurangi College:
1st XI Boys Football won 2-0
1st XI Girls Hockey lost 1-3
1st XI Girls Football won 4-0
Open A Netball won 28-22
1st XI Boys Hockey won 3-0
U19 Boys Basketball won 63-28

Message from the Director of Sport
With the winter season now upon us it is a good time to remind students of expectations
when they are part of a sports team.
Attendance at training is compulsory, anything but 100% attendance will hinder your
ability to play games. Coaches have been advised not to play students whose
attendance does not meet these requirements.
Sports uniform must be worn with pride. This means having the correct gear for each
game; ensuring you have the right socks (if you don’t these can be purchased from the
Stationery/Uniform Shop).
As I said in assembly a few weeks ago – Mt Roskill Grammar Sports teams are humble when
they win games and gracious in defeat.
We welcome parent support on the sidelines and encourage you to be involved in your
children’s endeavours.
Draws and results for sports teams are put up each week on our new Mount Roskill Grammar
Sport Facebook Page – These are regularly updated. They are also available on the school
website here
Football Success
Two of our boys’ football teams have advanced into the quarter finals of their respective
knockout competitions.
The First XI played against One Tree Hill College and despite a patchy first half managed to
emerge victors by 6 goals to 1 - placing themselves in the top 8 of Auckland teams.
Our Academy squad played against high performing Sacred Heart and achieved a striking 3-2
victory cementing their place in the top 8 of their knockout competition.
First XV at Eden Park
Our premier rugby team played Pakuranga College in a curtain Raiser on Friday evening
(15th May) before the Blues game vs the Bulls. Many students attended the game to support
the side and it was a proud evening as they came onto the pitch beneath the bright lights and
TV cameras. It was a hard and close game with entertaining rugby. Despite having the better
of the second half and we lost narrowly 10-12. The haka from both schools were featured on
Sky TV and you can follow this link to view the stirring preface to the game here

Term 1 Sports Highlights
Athletics
Year 10 student’s Malu Howard and Eisley Brown were stand out performers of our
Athletics team in Term 1 in the Hammer Throw and 400m events respectively. Both boys
excelled in their chosen events and gained excellent results. Nathan McDougall was also
first in the 3000m walk at the Greater Auckland event, a great achievement.
Cricket Boys
The 1st XI Boys Cricket team began their season slowly with a couple of close losses that
could have gone either way. However, in the second round of games they showed much
improvement beating both Kristin and Westlake Boys in the 2-day matches. The stand out
bowlers have been Zaheen Ceddique and Harjot Johal. The batting has been improving
with Oyishik Chakraboorty, Aman Bhardwaj and Arpit Batra all contributing well
throughout the first half of the season. The 2nd XI Boys team have also performed well they
are currently in 1st equal place in their grade with 6 wins from 7 games.
Orienteering
Our Orienteering team continues to excel at MRGS with more students taking part every year
and a good core group of students making the finals. Felix Yang and Janita Fuller stood out
for their performances in Term 1 with Felix coming in 5th place and Janita 7th in their
respective grades across all of Auckland. Both students are on the verge of making the
Auckland team for a competition on Queen’s Birthday weekend.'
Rowing
For the first time in many years Mt Roskill Grammar has had rowers competing in Auckland
and North Island events. Ayla Hawthorne and Mattew Carey have competed in the single
sculls events and performed admirably. We are on the look out for more students to join our
small rowing team, please contact Mr Horne if you would like more information.
Volleyball Girls
Our Senior Girls Volleyball team had a great season winning 9 out of 10 games to win their
grade. The team were admirably led by Tepou Arakua as captain.
Water Polo
Our Senior Water Polo teams have improved greatly this season with MRGS fielding one
team in Division 1 and the other in Division 2. The Division 1 team were 5th in their grade
and the Division 2 team 5th. The team was coached by Olly Gibb, who attended an
American University on a Water Polo scholarship and is aiming to make a long term plan for
the further success of Water Polo at MRGS.
Girls Rugby 7s Success
At the close of the term our Rugby Sevens Girls took part in the ARFU Secondary Schools’
Girls Invitational competition - they went through to the final unbeaten where they were
victorious over Otahuhu College and claimed the trophy. In addition to the team’s
achievement Toru Arakua was named MVP of the tournament and together with 5 other
members of our squad - Cheyanne Takau, Summer Kapsin, Christina Fifita, Lovely
Pulotu and Talalelei Tualima - has been picked for the Auckland Sevens development
squad. Congratulations to these students and the team as a whole for their impressive
performance.
1st XI Girls Cricket Tournament Success
This year our Ist XI Girls entered the NZ Cricket association summer tournament plate
competition. The location of the tournament at Keith Hay Park meant that students could
rotate the team around internal assessment demands, trips and extra curricular commitments.
This meant that their achievements were due to the full squad involvement and did not rest on
the shoulders of one or two individual performances.
The highlight of their qualification round was a resounding victory over local rivals Lynfield
College and just like the Blackcaps against South Africa they had the weather to thank when
the rain came in to save them in the final round robin game against Botany Downs College.
They had an opportunity to put things right when they were drawn to meet Botany again in
the finals. MRGS were put into bat and after some initial wobbles Breearna Johnson top
scored with 19, giving a modest total of 64. It was ultimately Roskill’s bowling and
particularly fielding which proved the difference between the teams. MRGS bowled 8 overs
without a single wide ball bowling only 2 in the match. The girls supported each other in the
field, walking in, backing up throws, chasing down superbly and taking every catch. The
result (Roskill winning by 40 runs dismissing Botany for 24 and winning the Plate Trophy)
showed just how far this team has come in the season under the leadership of Aashna
Saxema and Ayushi Pillai.

NZ U18 Lacrosse Team Selection
Matthew Van Veen and Ben Deverell have been selected for the NZ U18 Lacrosse team -
they join Venkat Prakash ( y13 in 2014) in a strong national squad.
MRGS Student in NZ Lacrosse Team
Venkat Prakash ex-Prefect and award winner in a number of co-curricular endeavours has
been picked for the New Zealand U18 Lacrosse team. This is a reward for his many years of
involvement in the sport while at Roskill. He is an accomplished player and together with a
number of students in his year established a strong base for the sport in the school. We wish
him all the best for his forthcoming games.
MRGS 1st XI Boys Cricket game vs Kristin
14/3/15
The MRGS 1st 11 cricket team began the two day competition last Sunday (8th March) vs
Kristin School in Albany. MRGS loss the toss and were put into bat and set a good pace early
on with a solid partnership between Abhay Vaidya and Oyishik Chakraboorty with a solid
performance by Arpit Batra. Abhay finished with 61, Oyishik 58, and Arpit 50 not out.
MRGS declared and finished their innings with a very respectable 254/7.
On day two Kristin were put into bat and early pressure from opening bowlers Zaheen
Ceddique and Harjot Johal put Kristin on the back foot. MRGS managed to restrict Kristin
to 123 all out. Stand out bowlers included Harjot with 3/20, Kashyap Choudhary 3/31.
MRGS were in a great position to enforce the follow on and send Kristin into bat again, they
had only 27 overs to get an outright win and try to bowl Kristin out to win the match. Early
pressure from our opening bowlers again restricted Kristin’s attempt to bat out the innings.
Zaheen bowled exceptionally well and managed to get a hat-trick (3 wickets in a row) which
is rarely seen in Cricket. MRGS managed to restrict Kristin to 70 runs all out and win the
match outright. A match winning bowling effort from Zaheen saw him finish with the
amazing figures of 6/20 off 8 overs and be named man of the match. Notable contribution by
bowling partner Kashyap who finished with 3/35. Roskill will be full of confidence after this
superb effort and will be hoping to finish off this half of the season really strongly.
Athletics Carnival 2015
The weather gave us a wonderful day for the annual carnival of athletics and students were
actively involved in the range of sports - gaining points for their house in addition to
challenging their own skills.

Junior Swimming Carnival
Amid the classroom work of this first full week our Junior students were involved on
Thursday 5th February in their swimming carnival. Led by the vocal and visual
encouragement of senior students, juniors from all five houses competed in the school pool to
gain competition points. On a fine weather day everyone got involved with energy and
commitment - swimming, paddling and even walking their legs of each race.
