INTRODUCTIONCities are centres of innovation and creativity, but they facegreat challenges from rapid urbanization, climate change andincreasing pressure on city services like transport andhealthcare. Smart cities are widely used seek to address thesechallenges and this concept is viewed as a one of solution forIndian cities to better cope with key challenges like physicalinfrastructure, energy transition, mobility and social innovationthrough extensive and effective use of technologies.This program is based on lectures, interactive workshops andsite visit. It will offer an overview of challenges, methodologies,and solutions for planning and development smart cities.

OBJECTIVES OF COURSEi. Identify and apply a systematic, strategic planning

approach for developing implementation design of SmartCities

ii. Building a knowledge base of the latest technologicalinnovations, strategies, and policies being developed byindustry and academia that are being deployed in cities

iii. To offer a better understanding of past experiences, designof infrastructure and the need of balancing top-down andbottom-up approaches in the smart city planning process.

iv. To give an overview of the emergence, structure, andstrategies of digital, smart, and intelligent cities.

COURSE MODULESMODULE 1 : Intelligent Cities – Smart Cities: Concept andDefinitions. Genesis of Intelligent Cities: Evolution of InnovationSystems

MODULE 2 : Genesis of Intelligent Cities: Evolution Of DigitalSpaces. Structure of Intelligent Cities

MODULE 3 : Architectures of Spatial Intelligence of Cities.Innovation and Knowledge Functions of Intelligent Cities.

MODULE 4 : Typology and Key Strategies for Intelligent Cities.Strategic Planning for Intelligent Cities

MODULE 5 : Governance. Smart City Applications Design andDevelopment

Course Module also includes Tutorials, Site visit and Groupwork.

ACCOMODATION

COEP will provide accommodation to limited number of participants on sharing basis at a nominal price in college hostel. Hotels are available in vicinity of campus.

HOW TO REACHPune is connected by air for domestic flights andcertain international flights. Pune Railway station is 2km from the COEP Campus having direct links to allmajor cities in India.
