1. The aim of the programme

TheaimofButtleUKSmallGrantsProgrammeandBBCChildreninNeedEmergencyEssentialsProgrammeistohelpchildrenandyoungpeopleindesperateneedwhoarewithoutessentialitems.Wedirectlyprovidegrantsforitemsthatareintendedtomakeapositiveimpactwhereachild’shealthordevelopmentisatrisk.Theitemsthatwefundarecriticaltothewellbeingofthechild/youngperson.Thesewillensurethatthechildren’sbasicneedsaremet,suchasawarmbedtosleepin,acookertoprovideahotmeal,orafridgesothatfoodcanbesafelystored,toallowforabalanced,healthydietsothattheycanthrive.

ButtleUKprioritisesapplicationsfromchildrenandyoungpeoplewhoarefacingexceptionallydifficultcircumstancesorwhoarefacingacrisissituation.We

considerthosewhoarelivinginseverepoverty,sufferingdeprivationasaresultandwhoarefacingadditionalsocialissuessuchasdomesticviolence,drugandalcoholmisuse,estrangement,illness,distress,abuse,neglect,behaviouralormentalhealthissues.

Applicationsbasedmainlyonfinancialhardshipwillnotnormallybeconsidered.Byfinancialhardshipwemeanfamiliesoryoungpeoplewhoarestrugglingtomeeteverydaylivingcostsandcannotaffordtopurchaseorreplaceessentialhouseholditems.Facingfinancialhardshipalonedoesnotmakeaclienteligibleforoursupportandtheyneedtobefacingadditionalsocialwelfareissuesinordertobeconsidered.

3. Who can make grant applications?

Wedonotacceptapplicationsdirectlyfromclients.Applicationsmustbecompletedbyasupportworker,workingwithinanorganisation,supportingthefamilyoryoungperson,andwhoiscapableofassessingtheirneeds.TheyshouldalsobeabletoadministeragrantonbehalfofButtleUK.Wecanacceptapplicationsfromawidevarietyoforganisationsincludingstatutoryorcharitableorganisationsprovidingahealthcare,socialcareoradviceservice,ProbationandYouthOffending,Tenancysupport,EducationservicesincludingPrimaryandSecondaryschools,NHSandPrimaryCareTrusts,SureStartandChildren’sCentresandFlyingStartandCommunitiesFirst.

4. How to Apply?

OnlineWebForm-ThequickestandeasiestwaystosubmitanapplicationistoapplyviaourOn-lineWebsystem.Itisourpreferredmethodofmakinganapplicationasitallowsforsensitiveandconfidentialinformationaboutclientstobesecurelyreceivedandautomaticallysaved.Youwillalsobeabletoreturntoincompleteapplicationsshouldyouneedtoobtainfurtherinformationtocompleteit.Therewillalsobeahistoricallogofyourapplicationsforfuturereference.YouwillneedtohaveaccesstotheInternetandregistrationis

straightforwardandinstantaslongasyouhaveanagency-administeredemailaccountthatisonlyusedbyyourselfandnotsharedwithcolleagues.(PleasenotethatwecannotacceptregistrationsfromemailaccountssuchasHotmail,GmailorYahoo).TheWeb-ApplicationFormsupportsthefollowingbrowsers-InternetExplorer10orabove,GoogleChromeorMozillaFirefox.Ifyouareusingolderbrowsers(InternetExplorerVersion9andolder),thenyouwillnotbeabletoaccessthesystem.WeadviseyoutospeakwithyourITSupportinrespectofupgradedyourcurrentbrowsersinorderforyoutoaccessthesecureweb-form.

Oncereceived,anapplicationcantakebetween2–4weeksforassessmentbyacaseworker.Wewillnotifyyouoftheoutcomebyemailorletter,whetherornotithasbeensuccessful.

5. What items we CAN assist with

• Babyequipment–ifthefamilyisnoteligibleforaSureStartMaternityGrant

AsButtleUKreceivesalargevolumeofapplications,andwehavelimitedfunds,ourmaximumgrantisaround£300.Thishelpsustoassistasmanychildrenandyoungpeopleaswecanandalsoprovidealeveloffundingthatcanmeettheirneeds.Wearenormallyonlyabletoassistwithoneitempersuccessfulapplication.Pleasespeaktoyourclienttoprioritisetheitemtheyaremostinneedof.Inexceptionalcircumstancesweareabletoconsiderrequestsformorethanoneitem.ThisdecisionwillbeatthediscretionofButtleUK.

ButtleUKhastoworkwithinspecificcriteria,agreedbyourTrustees,howeverwealsoaimtoprovideaflexiblegrantprogrammetoassistthosemostinneed.Ifyouareunsureastowhetheryourrequestwillmeetwithourcriteriaandyouwishtodiscussacasepriortomakinganapplication,pleasecontactus:

7. Local Authority Welfare Provision, Discretionary Assistance Fund, Scottish Welfare Fund and Community Care Grants

ButtleUKhasapolicytoensurethatclientshaveexhaustedallpossiblesupportfrompublicfundsbeforemakinganawardandthereisanexpectationthatifafamilyoryoungpersoniseligibletoapplyforassistancefromstatutorysourcesthatanapplicationismadefortheitemsbeingrequestedfromButtleUK.ThiswouldbetheirLocalAuthorityWelfareProvisioninEngland,theDiscretionary

AssistanceFundinWales,theScottishWelfareFundoraCommunityCareGrantinNorthernIreland.

8. Submitting your application

Ifyouareapplyingonlineorbyemailyourclientdoesnotneedtosigntheapplicationform.However,youdoneedtohaveyourclient’sfullconsenttoapplyforagrantontheirbehalf.Thereisaboxontheformthatyoumustcheck,toconfirmthisconsent.

Ourautomatedsystemwillreadyourapplicationformtoensurethatallcompulsoryfieldshavebeenfullycompleted.Youwillthenreceiveanemailnotifyingyouthatyourapplicationhasbeenreceived.TheemailwillalsocontaindetailsoftheCaseworkerdealingwithyourapplicationalongwiththeiremailaddressanddirecttelephonenumber.Yourcasewillbeallocatedauniqueapplicationnumberthatweaskyoutoquotewhencontactingus.Ifyouhavesentyourapplicationbypost,weareunabletosendanautomatedconfirmation.

Anapplicationcantakebetween2–4weeksforassessmentbyacaseworkerandyouwillbenotifiedoftheoutcomeofthisapplicationviaemailorletter,regardlessofwhetherornotithasbeensuccessful.ButtleUKreceivesaround15,000applicationsforassistanceperyearandtokeepthegrantprogrammeasfairaspossibleweareunabletoprioritiseapplications.Applicationsarethereforeassessedindateorder.Weappreciatethatthemajorityofapplicantsmeetwithourcriteriaandareexperiencingadifficultcrisisandrequireitemsthatareofanurgentnature.Weaskforyourassistanceinallowingsufficienttimetoconsideryourapplication,andtoonlycontactusaboutadecisiononanapplicationifyouhavenotheardfromuswithinfourweeksofitssubmission.

PLEASENOTE:ThedecisionwhethertoawardagrantispurelyatthediscretionofButtleUK,andthereisnoguaranteethatagrantwillbemade.

9. How does the client receive their award?

Cashawardsarepayablebychequetotheagencyapplying,andwillbesenttothesupportworkertoadminister.Directsupplyitemssuchaswhitegoodsandbedsaredeliveredandinstalleddirectlytotheclient'shome.ButtleUKrelyonthereferringagencytoinformthefamilyoftheoutcomeofanapplication.However,ifyourclienthasbeenawardedanitemtobysupplieddirect,acustomerservicerepresentativefromthatcompanywillcontactyourclienttoarrangeadeliverydatefortheawardeditem.Pleaseensureyourclientismadeawarethattheywillbecontactedandthatyouhavegivenustheircorrectdeliveryaddressandup-to-datephonenumberotherwisethismaycausedelaysinthemreceivingtheaward.Wewillsendaletterdirectlytotheclient’shomeinformingthemoftheaward.Thisletteralsogivesdetailsofthe12-monthguaranteeforproductsthathavebeensuppliedandalsogivesthetelephonenumberoftherepairsservicesshouldtheybeneeded.

10. Items Supplied Directly to Client

WhiteGoods-ButtleUKhascontractsinplaceforthedirectsupplyofwhitegoods.Iftheitemawardedisawhitegood(e.g.cooker,fridgefreezer,washingmachine)ButtleUKwillordertheitemfromtheirsuppliers.Theclientwillbecontactedwithin5workingdaystoarrangethedeliveryandinstallation.Theywillalsoremoveanolditemifrequiredandpreviouslyrequestedontheform.Ifagascookerhasbeenawardedpleaseensurethepropertyhastheappropriateconnectionsandthatthegassupplyisuncapped.

Beds-Ifthefamilyhasbeenawardedabed(e.g.eithersingle,double,bunkbedsandmattresses)ButtleUKwillordertheitemfromtheirsupplierswhowillcontacttheclientwithin5workingdaystoarrangeadeliverydate.Pleasenotethatthebedscomeflatpackedandwillrequireassembly.Weareunabletoofferanassemblyserviceonbedsandwecannottakeawayoldbedsormattresses.Clientswillneedtomaketheirownarrangements.

Wherepossiblewewillprovideitemsdirectlyratherthanawardingacashgrantevenwhenacashgranthasbeenrequested,asthiswillensureyourclientreceivestheirawardquicklyandsafely.Thisalsoeliminatestheneedforthesupportingagencytoreceiveandbankachequeaswellassupervisethespendingofthegranttopurchasethegoodsrequired.

Unfortunatelyweareunabletoassistwithcustomerpreference,soclientsareunabletochoosetheirownitem..ButtleUKhassetupcontractstoprovidewhitegoodsandbedsdirectlytofamilies.Thesegoodsarebrandnewitems,witha12-monthguaranteethatwillbesafelydeliveredandinstalleddirectlytotheclient’shome.Wehavealimitedselectionofitemsandweareunabletooffercustomerpreferenceonitemsinrespectofparticularcolour,makeandmodels,howeverwedotakeintoaccountparticulardimensionsofwheretheitemsneedtobeinstalledwithinthehome.

11. Cash Grants

Forallotheritems(ienotwhitegoodsorbeds)grantsareawardedbyachequemadepayabletothereferringagency.ButtleUKexpecttheorganisationtoprocessthecheque,supervisethespendingofthegranttoensureitisusedappropriatelyontheitemsrequestedandforreceiptstobekeptonfileforauditingpurposes.

Wewillneedthenameofyourorganisationasitappearsonthebankaccount.Wedonotneedthebankaccountnumber,aswesendpaymentsbychequethroughthepost.PaymentbyBACSisnotavailable.Ifyouareapplyingforawhitegoodorabedthatcanbesupplieddirectlytoyourclient’shome,pleaseenter“directsupply”or“unabletoacceptcheques”intheboxthatasksforachequepayee.IfyourorganisationcannotacceptachequeweareabletomakeachequepayabletoalocalsupplierprovidedthattheywillacceptachequefromButtleUK.Pleasenotewedonotmakechequespayabledirectlytoclients.

Thereisnorighttoappeal.ThedecisionwhethertoawardagrantissolelyatthediscretionofButtleUK.Ifyouwishustoreviewourdecisionbasedonadditionalinformationthatyouwishustoconsider,whichdidnotformpartoftheoriginalapplication,thiscanbeprovidedinwritingdirectlytotheCaseworkManagerbyemailorpost.

Duetothefactthatwereceivemoreapplicationsthanwehavefundsfor,weareunabletoassistineverycaseandhavetoapplyspecificcriteriaandprioritisethosemostinneedofourassistance.
