DESCRIPTIONSet within its own land with views overlooking its stunning gardens, Slape Manor is one of the most attractive Dorset country houses.
Grade II* Listed and built in the 17th century as an ecclesiastical court house, Slape Manor was converted to a manor house in the 18th century, and was sold by the Diocese of Salisbury in the mid-19th century. There still remains a stall for the Canon of Slape in Salisbury Cathedral.
The manor is approached through stone pillars and a pretty estate fenced drive with views over the valley and to the church at Netherbury in the distance.
A number of period features gives this wonderful house a particular charm. Double front doors lead to a flag stoned hall which continues into a grand inner hall. The easy flow of rooms from this central hallway is striking.
The reception rooms benefit from high ceilings and elegant windows with fine cornice detail and working period fireplaces. The drawing room and library are particular highlights, connected by double doors and ideal for entertaining. Both rooms have original oak flooring and create a triple
aspect overlooking the front drive and mature gardens. The drawing room has ornate panelling and the library, which is believed to have been designed by Thomas Hardy, has a large bay window and beautiful book casing.
Convenient for family living the kitchen has its own entrance and is connected to the morning room which has direct access to the terrace and main garden.
The impressive wooden staircase leads to a pretty landing from which all five principal bedrooms lead. The master bedroom has a dressing room, bathroom and further shower room.
A choice of two further staircases lead up to the second floor where there are a further three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sitting room.
There is a further staircase which leads to a turret with panoramic views of the grounds and the gardens.
Within the main house are two one bedroom flats.

GARDENS AND GROUNDSSlape Manor is set within rolling parkland in a private and secluded valley with the River Brit meandering either along the boundary or through the grounds.
The garden and grounds are well established and a particular feature complementing this beautiful house. The formal gardens are located to the rear and include an extensive terrace, sweeping lawns, well stocked flower/shrub beds and borders where there has been a considerable amount of planting of Camellia, Rhododendron and Azaleas which produce a magnificent display in the spring and early summer.
The gardens also contain a White Wisteria as well as several large Magnolias and an Italianate garden containing a sunken Lily pond surrounded by Yew and Beech hedging. As the gardens are set in the sheltered valley of the River Brit, they are well protected from the worst of winds and have a particularly friendly and welcoming feel, with this protection ensuring the early flowering of many plants and shrubs.
There is also a stream with magnificent Hostas, Gunneras and horizontal Cryptomeria and throughout the grounds are a variety of mature trees including Wellingtonia, Cedar, Beech, Willow, Monterey Pine and Oak.
The swimming pool is found in a sheltered garden with terraces and lawns and is hedged to provide a high degree of privacy with an adjoining partly walled kitchen garden and adjacent outbuildings/stores.
Beyond the gardens the grounds open onto a splendid lake surrounded by mature trees and meadows as well as areas of woodland with wonderful walks around the lake and along the banks of the River Brit. To the north of the manor, the land is predominantly laid to pasture with deciduous woodland to the north-west boundary. The pastureland is currently let on a Farm Business Tenancy.

OUTBUILDINGS AND COTTAGESThe Manor has four cottages, including River Cottage (made famous by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall) as well as a number of outbuildings and a large garage. The arrangement is such that the cottages lend themselves either to ancillary accommodation to the main house, staff accommodation or as letting opportunities. Please see the floorplans for a full understanding of the accommodation.
As expected, Slape Lodge is located at the top of the drive, adjacent to the lane whilst Slape Manor Cottages and River Cottage are closer to the main house.
The stables are attached to the Manor by a courtyard and are built in the same attractive stone. They consist of four traditional loose boxes with cobbled flooring and a tack room that still has the original saddle racks.
LOT 2Lot 2 comprises 43.4 acres of agricultural land, divided into approximately 10 fields, the majority of which are laid to pasture and a small area of woodland. The land is currently let on a Farm Business Tenancy.
LOT 3Lot 3 is a further parcel of pastureland with an adjoining block of woodland located to the far side of Slape Hill Lane. It is currently let on a Farm Business Tenancy.
