How did a typical Nepali hill village Bharse survive without a single gunfire during a decade long armed conflict? This is the main theme of this documentary. Intriguingly, these hardy villagers neither supported the security forces nor the Maoist guerillas who frequently harassed them.
Is this a Himalayan community of complacent people? Every house had sent their tender sons as soldiers to the British, the Indian or the Nepali Army, after having offered bloody sacrifices to their warrior goddesses. What stopped these fierce people from opposing the guerillas and mobilising the army?
Was this surrender? A coincidence? Fatalistic patience? Or the outcome of an extraordinary insight into modern warfare and its consequences? Norwegian Nepal knower and peace scholar Tone Bleie explores Bharse’s historical hardships as forced miners and present day’s 'no-war, no-peace' scenario from her perspective as a guest in the village.
A compelling testimony of the hitherto publically neglected peace-promoting foresight of ordinary Nepalese at a defining moment, when the risk of a relapse to civil war is getting alarmingly high.
