Show this tree who is boss!
By Michal Korczewski
This book is dedicated to my stomach
and my head
Because I fell on them when I fell
Sorry!
While looking down at the dark green and red leaves gently being lifted by the
small breeze. I grab the branch so hard my hand goes pale. My legs are cold and my
hands are freezing.
“Don’t fall!” I hear my dad holler from the sliding window down below.
“I’ll try” I scream at the top of my lungs, letting the cold air in to me.
I grab the secateur, which looks like a futuristic weapon from the movie skyfall,
and cut down the “antennas”. One of the branches hits my head and I stumble back a
couple centimeters. My love of heights suddenly dissapears as I grab the big thorny
branch with my hand as I hang from it. I pull myself up and look at my hand, it has a big
cut, the blood is dark red and I can see myself in it, but i still keep on cutting the
branches as if they were my enemies, I will win this fight.
“I will win” I say to myself
The joy of sitting on trees come back to me, and yet another feeling, the feeling of
anger i feel for that branch. I see the longest and the thickest branch of all of the ones
around. I lean out till my feet are almost out of my dad’s too big shoes and cut the
branch. I quickly move back trying to catch the branch on it’s way down. I suddenly the
the branch below me pop and I feel myself falling down. I hit the branch below and feel
the burning in my chest. I feel as If I fell from the sky.My head scream inside and I also
hear my mom shriek and my dad turn around. I slide down to the next branch as if I was
a boneless piece of goo. The second branch I hit with my head and land straight with
my head. I lay on my back and start breathing heard. There is a rush of warmth through
my body. I open up my eyes again to see my dog licking my mouth with his wet slimy
tongue that is normally hanging out. I feel his love for me come into me as joy fills my
body, joy of knowing that my dog cares for me.
“Are you ok?” questions my dad while leaning over me breathing out warm air all
over my face.
“Just great” I answer while pulling in some air.
My body starts standing up and lean against the tree. I look at my leg to see a
couple short shallow cuts. When I was going to the bathroom to clean the cuts because I
was going to come back and show this tree who’s boss.
That one day taught me a valuable lesson. From now I know that not all branches will
hold me. I know that I should always be safe and not mess around, now when I go up
that tree I sometimes don’t hold the tree because I have better balance and I feel safe.
