Agenda Item 4: Transportation Update
As discussed in the last meeting, the technical team and VDOT met to discuss the trip generation from the land
use and what changes may be needed. From that meeting no land use or intensities have been revised. Instead a
unique approach was developed to determine the future travel demand.

Regional Through Trip
Generated Trip from Land Use
Results of revised approach
• Internal capture calculated based ITE Mixed-Use Criteria. PM trips – 24% AM trips – 18%
• Movements between quadrants calculated with identical methodology as internal capture instead of using existing data.
• Transportation horizon year to be 2045 and supported level of build-out will be determined based on recommended alternatives.

Agenda Item 4: Transportation UpdateDeveloping Future Travel Demand
• Determine and Grow Regional Through Travel Volumes Based on Existing O-D Data
• Analyze Land Use to Develop Future Travel
• Develop Internal Capture Rates Based on ITE Mixed-Use Methodology
• Distribute Trips From New Land Use Based on ITE Methodology AND Existing O-D Data
• Develop Transit Share
• Remove Bike/Ped Trips from “Local” Trips
• Trips Become Vehicle Movements Within Model and Routes Revised based on Transportation Alternatives
