Reflection
“Just as it is God and not we who will establish His kingship over the world, so it is
God and not we who will create the new earth in which that kingship is exercised. In
fact, that’s really the glorious thing about the gospel of Jesus.
Everything we have—and everything we will ever have—is given to us. We will not
have earned it; we will not have built it. We will simply have received it all.
When eternity finally comes, we will live in a land that was made and created for us,
under a kingdom that was won and established for us by a Savior who died and was
resurrected for us. Put simply, the gospel is the good news of a salvation, in all its
parts, that is for us, and not in the least by us.”
–Kevin DeYoung and Greg Gilbert
“If faith is a sure persuasion of the truth of God which can neither lie nor deceive us
and be neither vain nor false, those who have conceived this certainty surely expect
likewise that God will accomplish His promises which, according to their conviction,
cannot but be true.
So that, in sum, hope is nothing else than the expectation of the things that faith has
believed to be truly promised by God. Thus Faith believes God to be truthful: Hope
expects that He will show His veracity at the opportune time.
Faith believes God to be our Father: Hope expects that He will always act as such
toward us. Faith believes the eternal life to be given to us: Hope expects that it shall
at some time be revealed. Faith is the foundation on which Hope rests: Hope nour-
ishes and maintains faith."

Calling
WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP*
Leader: The day of the Lord is coming! The day of the Lord is near!
People: The time is fulfilled! The reign of God is at hand!
Leader: O people, repent! Believe in the gospel!
People: Come, let us turn and follow the Lord!
PRAYER OF ADORATION
PRAYER CONCLUDES BY SAYING IN UNISON:
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be
done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our
debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
HYMNS OF PRAISE — ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME
JESUS I AM RESTING RESTING (MUSIC ON PAGES 3–4)
*Biblical worship is always a response to God’s gracious revelation of himself to his people. Hence, all our
worship services begin with a scriptural “call to worship” (that is, the content of the “call” comes from God’s own Word
quoted by the leader and the congregation). In this “call” we are reminded that God always takes the initiative. He
always comes toward his people first, in grace. Our worship is a reflexive and deliberate response to his gracious call.
We are promised that when we worship him correctly, he is glorified and the dislocations of our lives are healed.

All Hail The Power Of Jesus' Name WORDS: EDWARD PERRONET, ADAPTED BY JOHN RIPPON, MUSIC: OLIVER HOLDEN
All hail the power of Jesus' name
Let angels prostrate fall
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all
Ye chosen seed of Israel's race
Ye ransomed from the fall
Hail Him who saves you by His grace
And crown Him Lord of all
Hail Him who saves you by His grace
And crown Him Lord of all
Let every kindred every tribe
On this terrestrial ball
To Him all majesty ascribe
And crown Him Lord of all
To Him all majesty ascribe
And crown Him Lord of all

Jesus I Am Resting, Resting WORDS: JEAN PIGOTT (1876), MUSIC: DAVID HAMPTON (1998)
Jesus I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee
And Thy beauty fills my soul
For by Thy transforming power
Thou hast made me whole
Chorus
Jesus I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart
Simply trusting Thee Lord Jesus
I behold Thee as Thou art
And Thy love so pure so changeless
Satisfies my heart
Satisfies its deepest longings
Meets, supplies its every need
You encompass me with blessings
Thine is love indeed
Chorus
Ever lift Thy face upon me
As I work and wait for Thee
Resting 'neath Thy smile Lord Jesus
Earth's dark shadows flee
Brightness of my Father's glory
Sunshine of my Father's face
Keep me ever trusting, resting
Fill me with Thy grace
Chorus

CALL TO REPENTANCE
Righteous Father, we who own more than we use, proclaim more than we experi-
ence, and request more than we need, come asking your forgiveness. We seek your
salvation, then act like we save ourselves. We beg your forgiveness, then repeat
our errors. We experience your grace, then act defeated. We rely on your power,
but only in hard times. We have become confused and misguided. Forgive our every
defection. Bring us to an unbroken commitment and a steady trust, through Jesus
Christ, who is the way of hope, the truth of God, and the life of love, now and al-
ways. Amen.
SILENT CONFESSION (45 SECONDS)
SONG OF COMFORT — JESUS I COME (WORDS: WILLIAM SLEEPER, MUSIC: GREG THOMPSON)
Out of my bondage, sorrow and night,
Jesus, I come; Jesus I come.
Into Thy freedom, gladness and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of my sickness into Thy health,
Out of my wanting and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE A ND THE PEACE
Leader: “Since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Je-
sus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a
high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who
has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then
approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and
find grace to help us in our time of need,” (Hebrews 4:14-16).
Leader: The peace of the Lord be always with you.
People: And also with you.

Satisfied WORDS: CLARA T. WILLIAMS (1875), MUSIC: KARL DIGERNESS (1997)
All my life long I had panted
For a drink from some cool spring,
That I hoped would quench the burning
Of the thirst I felt within.
Chorus
Hallelujah! He has found me
The One my soul so long has craved!
Jesus satisfies all my longings,
Through His blood I now am saved.
Feeding on the filth around me,
Till my strength was almost gone,
Longed my soul for something better,
Only still to hunger on.
Chorus
Poor I was, and sought for riches,
Something that would satisfy,
But the dust I gathered round me
Only mocked my soul’s sad cry.
Chorus
Well of water, ever springing,
Bread of life so rich and free,
Untold wealth that never faileth,
My Redeemer is to me.
Chorus

Jesus, Lover of My Soul WORDS: CHARLES WESLEY, MUSIC: GREG THOMPSON
Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
’Til life’s storm is past;
Safe into the haven guide;
Receive my soul at last.
Other refuge have I none,
I helpless, hang on Thee;
Leave, oh leave me not alone,
Support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed,
All help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head
In the shadow of Thy wing.
Thou, O Christ, are all I want,
Here more than all I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy Name,
I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am;
Thou art full of truth and grace.
Plenteous grace with Thee is found,
Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound;
Make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art,
Let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart;
For all eternity.

Communion
INVITATION TO THE SA CRAMENT
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
Minister: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Minister: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Minister: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right for us to give thanks and praise.
Minister: With joy we praise you, gracious God, for you have created heaven and
earth, made us in your image, and kept covenant with us— even when we fell into
sin. We give you thanks for Jesus Christ, our Lord, whose coming opened to us the
way of salvation and whose triumphant return we eagerly await. Therefore we join
our voices with all the saints and angels and the whole creation to proclaim the
glory of your name.
(The Congregation Sings Together)
DOXOLOGY
WORDS BY THOMAS KEN, MUSIC BY LOUIS BOURGEOIS
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost
Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost
Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost
Minister: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us, that the bread we break
and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ. By
your Spirit make us one with Christ, that we may be one with all who share this
feast, united in ministry in every place. As this bread is Christ’s body for us,
send us out to be the body of Christ in the world.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION
MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION
Minister: Therefore, let us proclaim the mystery of faith:
People: Christ has died,
Christ has risen,
Christ will come again.
DISTRIBUTION OF THE BREAD AND THE CUP
Directions for taking communion: Redeemer Church welcomes all sincere
Christians—those who are trusting in Jesus Christ for salvation, understand the
meaning of the Lord’s Supper, and are in good standing with congregations that
proclaim the gospel— to receive Holy Communion with us. Please note that we use
wine for Communion; if you prefer non alcoholic grape juice, the grape juice is
white and the wine is red. For those with wheat allergies, a gluten free cracker is
available in place of the bread. Also, the bread and the wine may be eaten and
drunk as they are received. Please dispose of the cups in the trash receptacle.
A Word to Parents: Children are welcome at the communion table. To receive
the Lord’s Supper, a child must have been baptized and been formally received as a
communing member by the Session of this church or the governing body of the
church to which you belong. If you have any question about how the process works,
please contact Pastor David. Children may take the wine at their parents’ discre-
tion.

PRAYERS FOR THOSE NO T COMMUNING
(Because Redeemer is a church that is not only for convinced Christians, but also for peo-
ple at different stages in their spiritual journey, we gladly extend room for you to process,
think, and dialogue. Use the prayers provided below as guides to reflect upon and respond
to what God is doing in your life.)
PRAYER FOR THOSE SEA RCHING FOR TRUTH
Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be
undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If
what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of
who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and
that leads to the life that you promise. Amen.
PRAYER OF BELIEF
Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before
believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I
thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering
forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn
from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen.
PRAYER FOR THOSE STRUGGLING WITH SIN
Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my need, and may turn
from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me
to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set
before me, looking to you, the Pioneer and Perfecter of my faith. Amen.
PRAYER OF COMMITMENT
Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you in baptism and in a life of
committed discipleship in your church. Grant that I may take the necessary steps
to be one with your people, and live in the fullness of your Spirit. Amen.

Here Is Love WORDS: WILLIAM REES, MUSIC: ROBERT LOWRY
Here is love vast as the ocean
Loving kindness as the flood
When the Prince of life our ransom
Shed for us His precious blood
Who His love will not remember
Who can cease to sing His praise
He will never be forgotten
Throughout heaven's eternal days
On the mount of crucifixion
Fountains opened deep and wide
Through the floodgates of God's mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide
Grace and love like mighty rivers
Poured incessant from above
Heaven's peace and perfect justice
Kissed the guilty world in love

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVI NG*
Eternal God, Heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members
of your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. You have fed us with spiritual food in the Sac-
rament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us
strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
*A prayer written by Thomas Cranmer, 16th century archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the English Reformation and author of the first Book of Common Prayer. He was martyred for his faith, burned at the stake outside St. Mary’s Church in Ox-ford, England.

Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken WORDS: HENRY LYTE, MUSIC: BILL MOORE
Jesus I my cross have taken
All to leave and follow Thee
Destitute despised forsaken
Thou from hence my all shall be
Perish every fond ambition
All I’ve sought or hoped or known
Yet how rich is my condition
God and heaven are still my own
Go then earthly fame and treasure
Come disaster scorn and pain
In Thy service pain is pleasure
With Thy favor loss is gain
I have called Thee Abba Father
I have stayed my heart on Thee
Storms may howl and clouds may gather
All must work for good to me
Haste thee on from grace to glory
Armed by faith and winged by prayer
Heaven’s eternal days before thee
God’s own hand shall guide us there
Soon shall close thy earthly mission
Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days
Hope shall change to glad fruition
Faith to sight and prayer to praise
