First victim – Pauline Reade • She disappeared on her way to a dance in the Crumpsall district
on the 12 July 1963
• She was 16 years old
• She was killed in Saddlesworth Moor
• She was sexually abused
• She was hit by a shovel which fractured her skull
• The killer had slit her throat with a razor shape knife from behind
• She was almost decapitated
• Her body was then buried
Second victim – John Kilbride• 12 year old boy
• Was on his way home from Aston market place when he disappeared on the 23rd November 1963
• Like Pauline Reade, John was murdered in the moor
• He was sexually assaulted
• It was attempted to slit his throat
• John was strangled with a shoelace
• John was then buried
Third victim – Keith Bennett
• Keith was 12 years old
• Went missing when he was on his way to his grandmothers house on 16th June 1964
• He was also murdered in the Moors, the same as the other two victims
• He was sexually assaulted
• He was strangled with a piece of string
• He was then buried
Fourth victim – Lesley Ann Downey
• She was 10 years old
• She went missing on 26th December 1964
• She was taken to the home of the killer and forced to pose for pornographic photos
• She was also recorded
• She was also raped and strangled with a piece of string
• She was buried in Saddlesworth Moors
Fifth victim – Edward Evans
• He was a 17 years old
• He went missing on October 6th 1965
• He was taken back to the killers house
• His skull was smashed with an axe
• the body was found by the police in the bathroom of the house after a witness had called them

• Pauline Reade’s body was found on the 1st July 1987
• John Kilbride’s Body was found on the 21st October 1965
• Keith Bennett’s body has never been found
• Lesley Ann Downey’s body was found in 1965
• Edward Evans’ body found in October 1965
Ian Brady• He was born in a rough area of Glasgow
• He was raised by just his mother but she couldn’t cope
• Ian was unofficial adopted at four months but his mother regularly visited until he was 12
• Between 13 to 16 he was charged on three accounts with housebreaking and burglary
• He was not charged but was sent to live with his mother in Manchester
• a year later he was arrested again and released in 1957
Myra Hindley• Born in Gorton, Manchester
• When Myra’s sister was born, her mum and dadcouldn’t cope with work and children so sent her to live with her grandmother
• Myra’s and her father’s relationship never fully developed
• Parents were delighted to have her babysit their children
• Her best friend died at 13 when he drowned. She felt guilty as she was a strong swimmer and believed she could have saved him but turned down his offer that day to go swimming
