Why Iris Recognition?

very high between-person variability and verylow within-person variability across time
Stable over at least 30 years
Eye injuries or operations cannot change theIris pattern what so ever
furrows..ridges.. crypts..
rings.. coronas.. arching

Can we fool this technique?
present a high resolution picture of a person..
just wear a mask!
wear a specs or colored contact lens.. what if Ihave naturally dark black eyes ?
Pupil dilation or Disorders or diabetes or
natural aging ?
1. Live tissue detection checkfor retina
2. Illuminate at some angles cornea will reflect light
Red-eye effect3. ask the person to move the
eyes and track it. You can uselower resolution cameras for
this (may be!!)
Near IR radiation will be used to find the patterns.
So even a black eye will show rich patterns
The edge detection of contact lens and corresponding
correction will be made before processing... anyways NIRwilljust penetrate through the lens!
The algorithms take care ofpupil dilation.
The change in Iris is less than
30% and it is so subtle that itdoes not hamper Iris
recognition
