Turbines
1. Hydraulic Turbines, 2. Gas Turbines, 3. Steam Turbines, 4. Wind Turbines
According to Hydraulic Action
1. Impulse Turbines (Pelton Wheel, Girard Turbine, Banki Turbine, Jonval Turbine)
2. Reaction Turbines (Francis Turbine, Kaplan Turbine, Propeller Turbine)
According to Direction of Flow of Water
1. Axial Turbines (Kaplan, Propeller) 2. Radial Turbines (Francis)
3. Tangential Flow Turbines (Pelton)
According to Head
1. High Head Turbines (Pelton) 2. Medium Head Turbines (Francis)
3. Low Head Turbines (Kaplan, Propeller)

Turbofan Engine
• More efficient than the turbo jet
• Quieter engine due to the bypass air. Bypass ratio is 2:1 or 5:1
21
Turboprop Engine
• More turbine power for running both compressor and heavy propeller
• Limited to low altitude and low speed
24
Ram Jet
• Needs to be brought to sufficiently high speed by an external source before it can be fired.
• Performs best when air craft speed is above 2-3 Mach
