1 Woodbine PIC-Summary Report – April 18, 2013
1 Introduction
1.1 Background
Since March 1990, the TTC has set a goal of making all TTC service and facilities accessible.
To date 32 of 69 stations across the network have been made accessible with the Easier
Access Program.
Improvements to make Ossington Station accessible will include, two elevators, sliding
doors, wayfinding signage, localized station repairs, lighting and enhanced landscaping.
In order to minimize disruption in the community, bus bay and bus loop resurfacing will be
completed as part of overall upgrades.
Construction is scheduled to begin in summer of 2014 and be completed at the end of 2016.
1.2 Consultation Process
The July 16, 2014 event was the second public meeting held to inform the community of TTC’s
plans for Ossington Station. Since 2013, TTC has been meeting with adjacent residents,
property owners and stakeholders to discuss the construction plans.
Open House notices were delivered door to door to the area residents to ensure they received
notice of the event.
1.3 Event Details
Venue: The Bickford Centre 777 Bloor Street West
Time: 6:30 pm -8:30 pm

station

Large signs posted at Ossington Station
Properties in the immediate area were visited by the Sr. Community Liaison and
invitations were left behind where no one was home.

Social Media- TTC Corporate Communications tweeted details of the event
2.0 Summary of all Questions and Comments
The following is a high-level summary of the feedback received at the meeting. Comments were
recorded by TTC staff who were available throughout the evening to answer questions from
participants.
2.1 Access
Maintain pedestrian and vehicular access to residential properties and the Network Child
Care, via Northumberland
No concern about limiting laneway access between Northumberland, Ossington and
Concord
Access to station must be maintained at all times
2.2 Communication Preferences
Attendees signed in and provided contact information in order to future notices.
Participants were also asked for permission to share their contact information with the
local councillor
2.3 Construction Working Hours
TTC confirmed that work is scheduled to take place between 7 am and 7pm during the
week and on Saturdays from 9 am to 7 pm
Residents enquired about working hours and were advised that the contractor was
bound by City of Toronto by-laws
2.4 Dust and Vibration
Neighbours asked about dust levels. TTC confirmed that hoarding will be set up around
the perimeter of the site. Dust suppressants will also be applied if and when required.
Vibration from construction activity will be monitored in real time, 24/7.
Vibration monitors will be in place at the perimeter of the site. Any exceedence of
vibration beyond city threshold will trigger an alert to the site and stoppage of work.
2.5 Property Issues
3 Ossington Open House -Summary Report – July 16, 2014
All work will be contained on TTC property or within City right of way. No property
acquisitions are required for this project.
2.6 Design
Need adequate signage during construction
Step at front door of station is a major impediment to anyone accessing the bus
platform. TTC advised that this step will be removed as part of the new design.
TTC advised that the bus platform will be redone.
Can the bus platform at the top of the escalator be widened to reduce congestion?
o TTC will explore this further but preliminary review suggests that bus roadway
cannot be reduced any further without compromising safety.
TTC will also explore the following to help address this issue:
o Adding signage at the platform level encouraging patrons to use the west
stairwell instead of the escalator(post meeting note- signage to be in
place by September 2014)
o Relocate Next Vehicle Information Sign (NVIS) away from the area at the
top of the escalator to an area that’s less congested (further west on the
bus platform)
o Add benches or seating at the concourse level along with a (NVIS) so that
customers can wait there for a bus rather than standing on the bus
platform.
3.0 Next Steps
Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2014. Updates will be sent to the community to keep
them abreast of the project.
