OOOPS offers many opportunities for students to discoverand explore a variety of interests.  A strong curriculumdelivery is enhanced by many extra-curricular athleticactivities including baseball, basketball, soccer,cross-country, flag football, volleyball and Track & Field. Students can also join the primary and junior choirs, chessclub and eco-club.  During the winter months, staff offersorigami, skipping, board games, and boys' reading club. The older students are given leadership opportunities byreading announcements and being masters of ceremony atschool functions.  They model reading for the youngerstudents in the reading buddy program.

What Sets Us Apart

THE GARDEN:  OOOPS has a mature, green, naturalplayground space known as the Ossington/Old OrchardWilderness Garden which was a creation of the children, staff, parents and the local community.  The Garden has itsvery own apple orchard which was planted by our students. We have become an EcoSchool with a focus on reducing, reusing, recycling and composting.  Through this program, our school community, with the help of the Eco Committeecomprised of staff, students and parents, have succeeded inreducing our litter by half.  Each year, there are plannedcommunity and curriculum activities centred around theGarden.

Parent and Community Engagement

The high level of parent involvement translates into a very active, supportive and enthusiastic SchoolCouncil; a yearly Arts & Drama project and regular parent volunteers in classrooms, committees andfield trips.  A number of fundraising events are initiated and coordinated by parent volunteers andsupported by staff (Gingerbread Fair and the Fun Fair).  The broader community is welcomed to enrichthe programming for our students:  a Community Liaison Officer visits classrooms to discussStreetproofing, Internet Safety, Drug Awareness and Traffic Safety; public library outreach program andScientists In School.  OOOPS is also involved with many teacher training programs.  We welcomestudents from York University, O.I.S.E., Niagara College, Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and others.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice, access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
