BASIC PROGRAMME ON INFECTION PREVENTION & CONTROL IN HCO's (BIPC)
OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM
Infection control addresses factors related to the spread of
infections from patient-to-patient, from patients to staff and from
staff to patients, or among-staff within the healthcare setting.
Infection prevention and control practices are designed to reduce
the risk of hospital acquired infections and to ensure a safe and
healthy hospital environment for our patients, healthcare providers
and visitors.
This Basic Programme on Infection Prevention & Control emphasis
the issues related to infection prevention and control practices
within the clinical settings and helps nurses and hospital staff to
understand various advanced scientific practices on infection
control. The programme mainly aims at developing infection
prevention & control professionals (IPCP’s), who specialize in
implementing policies and procedures for preventing the spread of
infectious agents, and to perform duties to contain HAI’s and
epidemic outbreaks in health care settings.
State Resource Centre, Kerala is an institution working under the
Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India
and managed by General Education Department, Government of
Kerala. Secretary General Education Department, Government of
Kerala is the Chairman of SRC. SRC Community College is an
institution promoted by SRC for providing need based and locale
specific programmes leading to Certificate and Diploma courses.

On successful completion of the programme the learner will be
able to understand the Role of Infection Control Staff, Principles
and Practices in Infection Prevention & Control, Basic
Microbiology & Epidemiology of Organisms, Disinfection,
Sterilization & Environmental Cleaning, Hospital Acquired
Infections (HAI) and its transmission, Infection Control
Management during spread of Pandemics. Bio-Medical Waste
Management, Spillage Management, PPE’s and Health Care
Worker Safety etc.
Candidate should have Degree in Medical subjects, BSc
(Nsg.)/GNM, Degree/Diploma in Paramedical/ Hospital
supportive services.
An Online Certificate Programme on Infection Control by a
Government Agency.
Faculty panel includes experienced Doctors, NABH consultants
& Nursing Professionals.
The course modules will be instructed with the support of live
contact classes, recorded video sessions and subject text
articles posted in the website.
The time slots of the live contact classes are scheduled on
holidays for ensuring the participation of the employed staff
category.
Infection prevention & control professionals (IPCP’S) certified
through this programme can implement policies and
procedures for preventing infection outbreaks and epidemics in
health care settings.
