Why?

• It has been shown that Quality Reviews,

when done correctly, greatly improve the

rate of accuracy at a given site, especially

when used with the Interview/Intake Sheet

• It is not designed to capture the

information needed for a good Quality

Review – maybe it will in the future

Using the correct Quality Review Form

AARP Tax-Aide officially uses the IRS Quality Review Sheet – now combined with the Intake/Interview Sheet to form the new for 1009:

What should the QR check?

Check:

• All Employer Identification Numbers

• All addresses on W-2’s, 1099’s, etc.

• All Federal Withholding, including on SS

• Whether form is for taxpayer or spouse

What else should the QR check?

Check the:

• Filing Status by talking to clients

• Dependents – who can claim each one?

• Possible CDC, Child Credit, EITC

For E-File Returns

Check the:

• Document Control Number (DCN)

• Electric Filing Identification Number (EFIN)

• Site Identification Number (SIDN)

• Number of W-s’s, 1099’s, etc. to be sure the number of forms matches the number listed on the tree.

Finishing the Return

• Check the Direct Deposit Information carefully – deposits to the wrong account can be expensive in time taken to trace the error.

• Count the digits, as well as check for accuracy – one unfortunate zero can be a real problem later

For E-Filing

• Check C-EZ to be sure expenses are less than $5000

• Check Dividend and Interest Worksheets for red blocks

• Check the Tree for red marks

For Paper Returns

Check for

• W-2’s and 1099’s attached to form

• Site Identification Number (SIDN)

• Check for signatures on appropriate documents

• Leave the client with a smile and an

indication of when e-filing will take place

• Ask if there are any questions that have not been answered

• Give the client appropriate paperwork, Interview and Intake Sheet.
