Narrandera High School
Issue 13 Week 6 Term 3 Tuesday 27th August 2019
Term 3 continues to progress very quickly with the last fortnight being a very busy
one at Narrandera High School.
It has been wonderful to witness the creative arts flourish at our school over the past
few weeks. Following our amazing KROP performance, we have had our choir and
dance group perform at the Leeton Eisteddfod. This was the first time in many years
that our school has entered in these sections. It was a great achievement for our
school to receive highly commended prizes for these performances. Special thanks
to Mrs Julie Ramos and Mrs Brooke Gilmour for their leadership and commitment to
improving our focus on the creative and performing arts at Narrandera High
School. Our CAPA Evening last Wednesday was also a success. A showcase of sing-
ing, dance, drama, art and photography was on display. It was also a great oppor-
tunity for our Stage 6 Drama students to deliver their HSC Drama Performances in
front of an audience. Thank you to Miss Naomi Williams, Miss Emily Tyler and the CA-
PA staff for organising this highly successful evening.
Our Stage 6 students are completing their Trial HSC Exams this week. It is pleasing to
see the vast majority of students being well-prepared for these examinations. I wish
them all the best of luck.
The Narrandera High Clontarf Academy will be officially opened tomorrow, August
28. The positive impact that Clontarf has had on student attendance and engage-
ment has been absolutely amazing. We are very fortunate to have our own Clon-
tarf Academy on site at our school.
All students have been recently reminded about the contents of our school elec-
tronic device policy (which covers mobile phones and tablets). During lesson time
all devices, unless under specific teacher instruction, are to be turned off and away
in the student’s bag. Students are not permitted to record images, video or sound.
Filming or recording without permission can be classified as an offence. If these
technologies are misused by students they can be very disruptive to teaching and
learning and in some cases cause harm. Consequences of a breach of this policy
may include steps right up to suspension. Your support in reinforcing the im-
portance of these guidelines with your children is greatly appreciated.
It is SASS (School Administrative & Support Staff) Appreciation Week this week. We
will celebrate the magnificent contribution our SASS staff make to our school in a
staff luncheon this Friday. One of the most wonderful things about Narrandera High
School is the commitment and care all of our staff, including our support staff,
demonstrate towards our students and fellow staff members. It is a privilege to be
part of such a positive and dedicated staff team.
Kind Regards,
Marni Milne

STATE CUP NETBALL
A number of Narrandera High School netball teams contested the State Cup Netball competition
on a very cold Tuesday 13th August at Equiex Centre, Wagga Wagga. Our Year 7/8 boys partici-
pated and look forward to a stronger performance next year. The Year 7 & 8 girls finished 3rd in
the Riverina, losing in the preliminary round.
The stars of the day though were the Year 9 & 10 boys. These boys were the winners of the State
Cup Netball in the Year 9 & 10 division. The boys won the Riverina final which sends them to state
finals at Homebush Netball Centre on 24th & 25th September.
The boys took great pleasure in showing off the winners trophy to the girls!!!
Congratulations boys!!

LIBRARY BOOK REVIEW
Year 7 have been writing Book Reviews for books in our Library that they have read. They write
their Reviews within our OLIVER Library System and then everyone can see them when they
search for a book. It is invaluable to see what others have thought, before borrowing.
Thank you Year 7.
Take a look at some of the results below, and come up and borrow a good book…..maybe
even one of these!
MEET ALICE by Davina Bell
Dancing in the Rain!
In this historical fiction there is a girl named Alice. Young Alice is
dancing in her thoughts thinking about her papa, thinking about if
he is ever breathing. She takes changes for her dream and then
everything is turned backwards and Alice is dancing in the rain. I
love the twists! It starts off smooth sailing then it starts to get wavy.
The book is good. It has a lot of things happening at the end. I like it
because it had history in it like from the wars and it had my favour-
ite sport in it which is dance. The book made me excited! I think
that this book is for 13 years or younger. Overall I like the book.
RATING: 4 stars
REVIEWER: Tahlia Gilbert Yr. 7
The school choir recently competed at the Leeton Eisteddfod. The girls sang in 3 sections
and received a highly commended in two of them. Despite the nerves, the girls sang well
and are to be congratulated on their determination.

CLONTARF
The Narrandera Clontarf Academy went away to the Ross Kelly Cup Rugby League Carnival
in Sydney week 4 of this term and competed against Clontarf Academy's from all across
NSW. The Narrandera Academy were fortunate enough to meet some NRL players and
Clontarf Partners who were invited to the event.
At the end of the Carnival the top 25 players were picked to compete in the NSW team and
would take on the Holy Cross College 1st team at the end of the day. Deakin Bright of Year
11 was selected in this 25 man squad and played a massive role in NSW defeating Holy Cross
College who have not been beaten in two years. Deakin scored a try for NSW in this game
and was one of the standout performers on the day.
Well done to all the boys that participated you all should be very proud of how well you all
behaved.
Also just a reminder that our Official Opening is this Wednesday 28th August at 12pm. Please
report to the office on arrival at the school.
