What is minimalism
• Minimalism began during 50’s and 70’s. • Minimalist artist use simple geometric shapes
in repeated patterns to create art.• In minimalism the work is stripped down to its
most fundamental form.
Social Influence
• Post WWII• Influenced by abstract expressionism.• Shakers • Influenced by constructivists– they used
geometric shapes in their art work • Also influenced by Duchamp.
Donald Judd
• Born in late 1920 and passed away in 1994• One of the leading minimalist • Focuses on three main things 1. Boxes 2. Stacks 3. Progression
