Electronics:Thiscourseprovidesfoundationintheareaofelectroniccircuitsanddevices.Itincorporatesacombinationofmathematics and basic sciences appropriate to the electrical/electronic circuit design and analysis. Themainobjectiveof thiscourse is to inculcate instudents theability tounderstand fundamentalandderivedelectricalquantitiesandtoanalyzetheDCandACcircuits.Inaddition,thestudentswillbeintroducedtothebasicelectronicdevicessuchasdiodes,transistors,andopticaldevicesthatmaybeusedtodesignlargescaleelectronicsystems.Theseobjectivesareachievedbyteachingthemtherelevanttheoryandlabstoanalyze,describe and solve problems involving electrical/electronic devices with the help of practical circuitimplementation.

DigitalHardware:Digitalcomputeranddigitalsystems,binary,decimal,octalandhexadecimalnumbersystems,numberbaseconversion, complements, signed and unsigned numbers, binary codes, binary storages and registers, andbinary logic.Booleanalgebraand logicgates:basicdefinitions,axiomsdefinitionsofBooleanalgebra,basictheorem and properties of Boolean algebra, Boolean functions, canonical and standard forms, logicoperations, and digital logic gates. Simplification of Boolean functions: themapmethods, product of sumsimplification, NAND and NOR implementation, and the tabulation method. Combinational logic circuits:adders, subtractors, decoders, encoders, multiplexers, de-multiplexers, look-up table, functionimplementationusingmultiplexers/decodersandmemories.Sequentiallogiccircuits:flip-flops,synchronousand asynchronous circuits, counters(types of counters),registers, memories, design of counters, design ofsequentialcircuits,analysisofcounters,andanalysisofsequentialcircuits.Analog-to-digitalconvertersanddigital-to-analogconverters.Programmable logicdevices (PLD):PLA,PALandFPGA.StudentwillbetrainedontheproductsandcomponentsofK&Hproducts[KL-300DigitalLogicLab-13modules].

ComputerOrganization:CS414isanundergraduatecorecourseanditisintendedtogivethebasicunderstandingofhowahighlevellanguage program is executed by computer systems. It covers the basic design of hardware and softwarecomponentsofcomputersystemsandhowtheyworktogethertoexecuteaprogram.Thestudentswillbeintroducedto theclassicalandmodernprocessorarchitecturesanddesigns.Oncompletionof thiscourse,the students will have basic understanding of Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages (MIPS)instruction set architecture (ISA), CPU design, memory subsystem organization and input-outputorganization. Student will be trained on the available software such as Quartus 2 and Modelsim forsimulationandimplementationofmicroprocessorcomponentsonFPGAdevices.
