Newspaper ArticlesMs Pippa Brady & Ms Joanne Callan- St Mary’s College, Dundalk.

To be able to identify the 5Ws in newspaper

articles.

To be able to identify and comment on the

features of language that define a broadsheet

newspaper and a tabloid newspaper article.

To identify and discuss the similarities and

differences between broadsheet and tabloid

journalism

To be able to create a presentation on one of

the following topics:

• The differences between broadsheet and

tabloid journalism.

• The features of broadsheet or tabloid

journalism.

• We began with focusing on the learning

outcomes and brainstormed on how the

students could achieve these in the most

engaging way.

• We divided the tasks. Each of us created a mini

lesson to achieve that outcome and decided who

would lead which stage of the activity.

• While one of us led the activity, the other

supported by keeping the students on task and

adding further clarity if needed.

• We made eye contact with each other to signal

that we wanted to contribute something during

the others lead time. We stated when we were

finished the task and introduced the co-teacher

giving an indication of what was coming next

• During groupwork, we both visited groups

ensuring turn taking was taking place. As part of

the group feedback, we added our evaluation of

how well the students engaged with the task.

• Students were asked to evaluate the lessons.
