We remember all those who have died recently especially Manolo Soriano and those whose anniversaries occur at this time: Patrick Houlihan, Barbara O’Loughlin, Neville Upham, Vera Dunn, Patrick Kelly, Ellen Prickett, Alice Langdon, Jo Lewis, Sheila Newton, Harvey Lindsay, Patricia Bowey, Stanislao Lanfranchi, John Morelli, William Quinn, George Campling, Henri Borremans, Richard Gregory, Mabel Preston, Irene Rowe, John Hunter, James O’Keefe, Maurice Wilmer & Joseph Caldwell.
The last couple of weeks have been busy (as usual) including a number of ‘Special Occasions; First Holy Communion for 46 young people, a couple of Baptisms, a Funeral and lastly, but by no means least, Mass on Sunday at 9.30am where the First Holy Communion children returned to Church to receive their Certificates and afterwards had a party in the Parish Centre. All of these events were great celebrations in their own right. On the day, and on following days, I received some lovely comments from both parishioners and visitors to the church which were really encouraging. Added to this, last weekend I returned to my previous parish for a Baptism. On entering the Church it felt strange, I felt like a visitor. I now realise that St George’s and St Teresa’s is the location where I feel ‘at home’. It would also appear that you are getting used to me - and my strange ways - and you are feeling more at home with me. Lately I have passed the first 100 days in the parish and this is often seen as a milestone in a relationship. The novelty is starting to wear off and the routine is beginning to evolve. The next milestone is my official Induction as Parish Priest and this date is fixed as Thursday, 13th July at 7.00pm at St George’s Church. The Rite of Induction will be performed by Fr Michael Thomas who is our Dean. As is usual on such occasions, a coach load of parishioners from the Sacred Heart and St Antony parishes in Bristol, will come to check that you are looking after me; at the reception afterwards you can quiz them on what I was really like over the 6 years I was their Parish Priest. It always takes time to settle into a new town; a new set of people to minister to and a new set of challenges to face up to. I am happy to say that I certainly feel confident about the future as I am sure the good Lord has great plans for all of us.
