Meaningful, Manageable and Motivating Feedback – Strategies to support this and sharing good practice.
Aims of session…
• Reflect on how we are making our marking: ‘Meaningful, Manageable and Motivating’.
• Consider how we could adapt our approach to improve impact.
• Share strategies we can bring back to our classrooms and departments.
• Consistency across the depts. And school
What is feedback for?
To identify the strengths and development of learning.
To create dialogue between the student, teachers and other adults.
To support learning and progress over time. To address misconceptions of learning. To praise and acknowledge good work and effort. To EMPOWER and MOTIVATE all learners for a
successful future!
Why SIR? • Students can see what they are doing well and
know how to improve.• Promotes a growth mind-set when used correctly.• Promotes differentiation- feedback can be
personalised for individual students.• Students should be the ones doing the work not
us! Use the response to get them working.
Peer / Self assessment / Quality control

What are we doing well…?
What is going well in your classroom or department?
What are the challenges you or your department face? How can we overcome these?
What top tips can we add…?
• If you are marking an assessment or a specific piece of work – get students to leave their book open on that page.

extract / 2 on wider novella • Avoid the phrase: ‘this gives off
the impression…’
Literacy Improvements:
• Apostrophes • Spellings
Highlight in green the targets you are going to address in
tomorrow’s mock exam.
Do you understand what your improvement is asking you to
do?
Tips for exam – things you could have commented on here:
• How Stevenson appeals to the readers senses
• Use of first person narrative
Polaroid Moments: Ella’s use of embedded quotes. Joshua Simpson addressed all the success criteria.
Response:Comment directly on the language used. The word ‘revolting’ suggests that Hyde’s presence had a physical impact on Lanyon. He felt repelled by the appearance of the man which is surprising as he is a doctor and would have seen many horrors during his career.
What can you take away today…?
• Pledge to try a new strategy – on a post-it note, write down something you will try and feedback to one of us on the outcome
• What will you do?• What class will you try it with?• Who do you pledge to feedback to?
