Macar thur Advancement & Development Association Inc. Issue Nº 225 DECEMBER 2017
MACARTHUR NEWS
The next general meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.
Wednesday, December 13th. 7.30pm at the Macarthur Senior Citizens Rooms
Farewell and God speed!
Some eight years ago Council, in their wisdom, appointed someone to work with small towns to help get
projects done and help community groups find a way through the maze that is funding. That person was Craig
Midgley and over the past eight years Craig has worked closely with MADA and similar organizations in more
than ten small communities throughout the Shire. Over that time Craig has attended our meetings monthly,
missing only a handful in all.
Craig has been a fount of information on funding sources, providing practical advice and encouragement
along the way. He has also liaised with Council on our behalf to get things done. Over the past approximately
three years he has printed the Macarthur News for us each month. His passion for his job has never waned and
he has been an invaluable part of our team. Sadly, Craig is moving on and at our last meeting we had to say
goodbye. His final ‘job’ for us before leaving was the printing of this paper, rather appropriate really as the first
one he ran off was also a December edition.
By the time you read this Craig will have taken up a new position in Wudinna, a small town in a wheat farm-
ing area about 2 hours west of Port Augusta. Wudinna is about the same size as Macarthur and Craig will be
working with the Council to meet the challenges of a new mine in their Shire and plan for the miners who will
be moving into town with their families.
Most of you have probably not met Craig but to the MADA Committee he has become a friend we like, trust
and respect. We want to say thank you to Craig for all of his hard work on behalf of the Macarthur community
and to wish him all the best in his new venture. Craig will be sadly missed and his will be big boots to fill. We
know that he will either read this paper before he goes or take a copy with him so we want to publicly
acknowledge and thank him on your behalf.

Macarthur Lions Club News
Thanks to everyone who supported our Annual Market in September, we did not have as many site holders or people looking around but we still had a great day. We held our Annual Youth of the Year (public speaking competition) in early October and we had 2 students from Brauer College. The winner was Tatiana Hass. Tatiana will move on to the next level which is held February 2018. Lions will once again be holding our Australia Day celebration and free BBQ at the Macarthur Recreation Reserve from 6.30pm. Please put this in your diary and tell family and friends to come along and enjoy the celebrations. More info later, guest speaker to be confirmed. Christmas cakes and mints are still available at the usual outlets. Thanks to everyone who has supported our club over the year. Macarthur and District Lions members would like to wish every-one a very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy 2018.

Macarthur Hall News
The Annual General meeting was held on the 9th November. The committee remains the same, as do the fees for the coming year. A big “Thank you” to the Macarthur Men’s Shed for the construction and installation of our new notice board positioned on the front of the hall. We encourage the advertising of events, and a list of contacts & hire charges will be placed there as well. The Shire has been working on fixing the rising damp in the northern wall, with a specialist team undertaking the work so far. Skirting boards in the main hall area will be repositioned when they are sure the work has been successful. We are in the process of updating some of the equipment. A new fridge & 2 new urns should be in the kitchen shortly. If there is any equipment that users feel needs to be added please contact one of our committee members. We want the hall to be user friendly and in the best condition possible. The Hall is there to be used. It’s a terrific facili-ty for gatherings large and small, so please don’t hesitate to contact Cate Savin or Grahame Stafford for bookings.
