Born and raised in the Bay Area of California, Shaykh Abdul Karim Yahya accepted the Shahada of Islam in 1989. After exposure to the traditional sciences of the religion, he embarked on a journey to Damascus where he would begin his formal education in the study of Arabic and its perfected manifestation enshrined in the Qur’an under Shaykh Abu Anas. Shaykh Abdul Karim then left for Yemen for several years, where he would earn the credentials of scholarship (ijazat) in the sciences of fiqh and sirah from some of the most learned of our time, including Mufti ‘Umar bin Hafiz, Shaykh ‘Umar Hussain al-Khaṭib, and Shaykh Muhammad ‘Iwad al-Khaṭib (may Allah preserve them). Shaykh Abdul Karim currently serves as the resident scholar at the Beacon Foundation in Detroit, Michigan.
