LiVinG LisbOn// gRÂnDola - Grândola is a typical small Alentejan town. Here hospitality, warmth, proximity and affability represent a form of life and an attitude which differentiates the place within an open and pluralistic space. Grandola is known amongst the tourists and even amongst the Portuguese for its offer of wonderful food. There are many restaurants available from typical Portuguese food to gourmet dishes. (Font: Portugal Dream Coast)
// FaDo - Fado music is the heart of the Portuguese soul. It is arguably the oldest urban folk music in the world. (…) The essential element of fado music is “saudade,” a Portuguese word that translates roughly as longing, or nostalgia for unrealized dreams. (…) Fado flowers from this fatalistic world-view. It speaks of an undefined yearning that can’t be satisfied. Like other forms of folk music such as American blues, Argentine tango or Greek rebitika, fado cannot be explained; it must be felt and experienced. (…) The traditional accom-paniment for the fadista is a Portuguese guitar, or guitarra, a 12-stringed instrument, and a bass guitar, or viola. (Font: World Music Central)

LiVinG LisbOn// BelÉm - Lisbon’s most monumental and historical area is Belem. It was from here that many of the great Portuguese explorers embarked on their voyages of discovery: Prince Henry the Navigator and the first overseas expedition to conquer Ceuta in Morocco, Bartholomeu Dias to round the Cape of Good Hope, the first voyages of Ferdinand Magellan, Vasco da Gama to discover the sea route to India, and Christopher Columbus stopped here on his way back to Europe after discovering the New World. During this time Lisbon flourished with riches pouring into Portugal and saw the construction of great monuments like the Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery. (Font: Go Lisbon)

LiVinG LisbOn// HIStoRIC CenteR oF lISBon - The Bairro Alto is one of the most characterful and attractive neighborhoods in the city. The Bairro Alto boasts boutiques and bars and is a place where people meet in an eclectic and multicultural atmosphere. To discover its streets, lanes and alleys, it is essential to explore it. (…) Bairro Alto is a unique experience within Lisbon packed with secrets ripe for discovery. From Bairro Alto, stroll down to the Chiado, the sophisticated hub for the city’s young people, artists and intellectuals The Chiado is an area of iconic cafés including “A Brasileira”, art schools, theatres and of living history. Rua Augusta is the main artery of the Baixa Pombalina leading north from Terreiro do Paço (known as Black Horse Square by the English), to the beautiful Praça do Rossio (Praça Dom Pedro IV). Just north of Rossio, discover Avenida da Liberdade, which in the 19th century, was the favourite promenade for the Lisbon élite. Today, the Avenida is home to exclusive international boutiques to tempt and inspire. (Font: Visit Lisbon)

It was later renamed to commemorate the ‘Carnation Revolution’ that happened on the 25th of April 1974. Along with being the second-largest Portuguese city after Lisbon, Oporto is also one of the most prominent urban areas in Southern Europe. Its rich history which dates back to many centuries enriches its cultural wealth as the city is one of the oldest European centers. Vinho do PortoPortuguese fortified wine produced exclusively in the Douro Valley in the northern provinces of Portugal. It is typically a sweet, red wine, often served as a dessert wine, though it also comes in dry, semi-dry, and white varieties.
Port wine’s characteristics distinguish it from common wines. All varieties of Port have rich, intense, and very persistent aromas and flavour, with high alcohol content (usually between 19% and 22% vol.).
Have you heard of francesinhas? Its origins are a mistery, the name francesinha translates as ‘little Frenchie’. A funny-looking sandwich on a plate, covered in melted cheese and a strange red-orange sauce. Every francesinha establishment has their own sauce, kept under lock and key like a family heirloom. Ingredients include tomato sauce and beer.(Font: The Crowded Planet).
