SubaNews Letter ~ 3 ~ January 2013
Report Number 3, but who’s counting
Hi All,
Yep, I know, everyone is flat out in the lead up to Xmas so I won’t keep you too long.
For info, the committee had their monthly meeting on 09 Dec 12 and there were a few noteworthy
issues which may interest some members.
The editors M&M (Mick and Marion, or is it Marion or Mick) have sourced a printing company to
make us some calendars and they are currently doing a run of 25 which will be available for
purchase through the club shop. Running to an urgent timeframe of last Sunday night, M&M only
had limited quantity of pics to offer up to the printers but there is a good selection of member’s cars,
models and activities and they favourably represent our club and activities. I would also like to point
out that there is a stylish glamour shot for January, just you wait and see, well after you make the
purchase. Price for this exclusive calendar is $10 which is just below cost.
For those who have nothing better to do towards the end of the year, or are just extremely keen to
make an early purchase of a calendar, we are trying to organise a casual BBQ and calendar pick-up
event. It will be a simple BBQ snag affair ($1 per hit) and a few drinks (normal costs) and of course,
the great calendars at $10 each. The location will hopefully be at the clubhouse but we don’t have a
standard booking through the Veteran Car Club so we have to check on availability. Rest assured,
there will be a back-up location if we can’t access the clubhouse. Please note that the calendars will
be posted to M&M and their actual delivery date is at the mercy of our postal service, so things
might not go exactly to plan. To that end, Dave Martin will send out an email (ASAP) to everyone
confirming all the necessary details, yes/no, location, time and every other snippet of info that might
be needed.
Our Property Officer is still trying to find out some more details about the light wind jackets with the
club logo and she promises to keep us all in the loop. Our Social Director has also located a
company to manufacture some new Club stubby coolers. Fingers crossed, we should have some
new coolers come early next year.
So, with the update complete, I shall say my farewells for the year. Firstly, I would like to thank
everyone in the club, for without their continued support, there would be no such club. The turn-
outs at all of our events are solid and that is the basic building blocks for any great club. I have also
heard how other clubs are jealous about how many members turn up at our club meetings
compared to theirs, so great effort folks. To those who put in that ‘little extra’ within our financially
restrained year, thanks. Every dollar counts. To the committee members for help with the ongoing
running of the club, both new and old, another thanks. Everyone has put in a stellar effort and we
are prospering for it. Finally to the sponsors, yet another/another thanks. Those extra dollars helps
to reduce our financial worries and allows us to concentrate on the personal side of the club. So, I
guess, a BIG THANKS to the whole extended SubaClub family. A hearty MERRY CHRISTMAS and
a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all. Continued wishes for safe travels and may Santa bring you that special
gift you desire. I was going to say ‘deserve’ but on reflection of some of the more dubious members
(no, I’m not mentioning Gibbo & Rik this time for their improper disclosure of some personal Ballina
Xmas antics) ‘desire’ will have to make do.
Cheers
Shane Cramp (SC 637)
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
SubaNews Letter ~ 4 ~ January 2013
This was taken on the day trip after the Woodenbong rally and was one of the few cars at the tail end to return to see the
overturned rally car still in the creek from the day/night before. It was along the Boomi Creek dirt road, a bit before the
intersection with Clarence Way.
Thanks to Bob & Cindy Beattie (SC 651) for sending in this great picture.

SubaNews Letter ~ 9 ~ January 2013
Hi everyone
Well we’re a couple of editions into the new look SubaNews Letter now and Mick and I are starting
to get into the swing of things. It’s a very hectic time for us all just coming into Christmas and I’m
sure that we are all looking forward to hopefully a few days off work to enjoy time with family and
friends. Hence the reason for getting this month’s SubaNews Letter out early.
We have received a steady stream of trip reports and photos...thanks to everyone for such a good
effort. Also if you have any recipes, good humour or anything else of interest, please send it in.
We’ve also attached a couple of jokes to this email...hope no one takes offense.
I’ve (M) made a few batches of my Christmas cheer, so I’m sharing the recipes with you, should you
wish to try.
Drive safely...

ROCKY ROAD
SubaNews Letter ~ 11 ~ January 2013
The novel “Fifty Shades Of Grey” has seduced women and baffled blokes. Now a spoof,
Fifty Sheds Of Grey, offers a treat for the men. The book has author Colin Grey recounting
his love encounters at the bottom of the garden. Here are some extracts...
Fifty Sheds Of Grey
We’ve tried various positions, “round the back, on the side, up against a wall...
but in the end we came to the conclusion the bottom of the garden was the only place for a
good shed.
She stood before me, trembling in my shed.
“I’m yours for the night,” she gasped, “You can do whatever you want with me.” ...so I took
her to Bunning’s.
She knelt before me on the shed floor and tugged gently at first, then harder until finally it
came....I moaned with pleasure. Now, for the other boot.
Ever since she read THAT book, I’ve had to buy all kinds of ropes, chains and shackles.
She still manages to get into the shed, though.
“Put on this rubber suit and mask,” I instructed, calmly.
“Mmmm, kinky!” she purred. “Yes,” I said, “You can’t be too careful with all that asbestos in
the shed roof.”
“I’m a very naughty girl,” she said, biting her lip. “I need to be punished.”
So I invited my mum to stay for the weekend.
“Harder!” she cried, gripping the workbench tightly. “Harder!”
“Okay,” I said. “What’s the gross national product of Nicaragua”“
I lay back exhausted, gazing happily out of the shed window.
Despite my concerns about my inexperience, my rhubarb had come up a treat.
“Are you sure you can take the pain” she demanded, brandishing stilettos.
“I think so,” I gulped. “Here we go, then,” she said, and showed me the receipt.
“Hurt me!” she begged, raising her skirt as she bent over my workbench.
“Very well,” I replied. “You’ve got fat ankles and no dress sense.”
“Are you sure you want this?” I asked. “When I’m done, you won’t be able to sit down for
weeks.” She nodded.
“Okay,” I said, putting the lounge suite on eBay.
“Punish me!” she cried. “Make me suffer like only a real man can!”
“Very well,” I replied, leaving the toilet seat up.

SubaNews Letter ~ 14 ~ January 2013
Hi all
The Club’s Christmas Party on the 24th – 25th November at the Seabreeze Caravan Park, South
Ballina was a blast. The turn out this year was not as big as last years, however there were still
plenty in attendance, which made it another great gathering. Also you wouldn’t believe it, but Darren
Woods once again won the 1st prize hamper, which has been 2 years in a row. The BBQ dinner was
fantastic and thanks goes to Mary, Shane, Cherie and Karen for doing all the shopping. Thanks to
all those that helped get everything prepared for the night.
The 1st of December the QRC Rally Gallangowen and on the 2nd a day trip of the Gallangowen area
was ran. Unfortunately we have not heard anything about this weekend, to give you a short snippet
but hopefully there will be a full trip report in one of the upcoming newsletters.
In my last report I advised that we will be taking a short break from trips over the Christmas/New
Year period. However Shane Cramp was nice enough to slot one more trip in for the members that
were interested and they headed out for a play in the Laidley area. Shane supplied a sausage sizzle
for lunch (ask Shane about the gas bottle and remember he is to be fined at the January General
Meeting).
The first trip for 2013 will be Australia Day Long Weekend the 26th – 28th of January to Booloumba
Creek. A site has been booked and paid for – however there are only 2 places left. If you want to
come on this trip, please see either Cherie or myself to pay ($5.45 per head per night) for your spot
to be guaranteed. Please keep in mind, these are tent spots only. If you want to bring a camper or
van, you will need to arrange your own camp spot. If you happen to miss out on one of these
booked spots, you can arrange an alternate booking for yourself, either by phoning 13 74 68 or
online at: https://parks.nprsr.qld.gov.au
There are currently no trips on the books for February. We have had no volunteers to run a trip but
hopefully something will be arranged ASAP and we will get this information out to members. So
keep an eye on ‘What’s On’ – on the club’s website, your inbox, Ausubaru and Facebook for details.
Lastly, I would like to let everyone know that I will be resigning from the Social Director’s position.
With Cherie and I expecting our wee little girl early next year and with my work commitments
changing, unfortunately I think I am going to struggle to find the time to attend trips, let alone keep
the Social Director’s work in order. If you are interested in taking over, please either let our president
Shane or myself know.

WHAT’S ON ??? UPCOMING TRIPS & EVENTS
SubaNews Letter ~ 19 ~ January 2013
About a month before the trip, Matt White from ARB Coopers Plains sent the Club an email saying
they had bought a new Impreza XV. They had chosen a new XV as a promo vehicle that could be
used to display their growing SUV product range. From this info Jan K decided to call into the
showroom and find out what they had in mind. His idea was for them to bring the XV on the easy
Monsildale trip which was coming up in a few weeks. A plan was worked out where we would all
meet at the ARB show room, have look around, talk and have a coffee if needed. Then head up the
Brisbane Valley highway to Linville and do the trip in the reverse direction that we normally do it in.
For the day we had good rollup of 16 vehicles. They were trip leader Jan K lifted Forester GT, new
Club Pres Shane Cramp lifted Outback, Mary Horner lifted Forester XT, Rik and Lisa Close (in their
new and on its first Club trip) 07 Outback 3.0 R, Rik had only picked it up the day before and had
done a quick job fitting the CB, Mick Kos lifted Forester, Dave Gibbo and dad Noel lifted Forester,
new social director Luke Verschuren very lifted Brumby, Luke's two friends in a Jeep Wrangler, Phil
Nelis lifted Brumby, Phil White the big Tribeca, Bob Beattie Pajero, (Bob and Cindy had just
returned from a Blue Mts trip), Rob Peters Hilux. We also had some possible new members in a
2010 Forester and a lifted Forester XT. The ARB XV is smart looking in pearl white and has a roof
rack fitted with a bike frame and a luggage pod. I was tail end Charlie in my lifted Forester X, with
our rally helper Wes Depper as passenger. We have finally convinced him to purchase a Forester
which he’ll buy soon.
Before we set off, we got a good photo of Luke’s Brumby at the top of the ARB test track right in
front of the building. The track is pretty unique with one side having electrically controlled ramps that
can vary the angle of the climb to the top. From ARB we headed west, with a big convoy and many
traffic lights, we had a quick regroup before we hit the highway. At the Toowoomba and Warwick
turn off, Phil White headed for home as he could not come on the whole trip. Later in the day he did
catch up with some of the early leavers around Kilcoy.
In Fernvale we stopped for a quick break and to collect another Club member Johnno Brown in his
very well set up Forester XT. Next stop was another quick break in Linville. Soon after at the long
causeway over the Brisbane River we stopped to get a photo of all the cars. We were on the dirt
now travelling through the many gates, the gate keepers were doing well with many lollies being
handed out. I think Jan K and Mary carry the biggest stocks of lollies. Most of the creek crossings
were deeper than we thought for this time of the year. The XV did touch the bottom of its front
bumper in a few places, but got through without any problems. There were many good photos taken
of the creek crossing action.
We stopped for lunch at a shady spot beside the creek, where everybody had another chance to
mingle and have a look over the cars. From here we continued on good dirt roads, heading north
east climbing up the Jimna range. At the top with time getting on, a few cars decided to head for
home via the bitumen. The remaining crew headed east, stopping at the lookout over Booloumba
Creek. Down near the camp sites we found a bush turkey madly scraping leaves and sticks across
the main track to build his nest -- not sure how he got on. Further on, all the creek crossings were all
low compared with our Easter trip.
Once we hit the bitumen we took the Conondale back track up over the range. Our last stop was the
southbound BP travel centre where we had a snack. From here we said our goodbyes and set off
for home. A big thank you to our Trip Leader Jan K, for all his organisation of the day and to
everyone who came along.
ARB Coopers Plains said they are happy to give Club members a discount.
