3rd August, 2014 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad, shared some crucial and life saving information with the slum children along with other routine activities. Volunteers of the day – Mashooq Ahmad Malik, Shubhajit Mitra, Krittika Tayal, Vishal Tiwari, Chhatoi Rakesh Taunk and Tarun Kumar started the activity with the information on SOS. The little participants were given certain situations and were asked how they would respond like – if you are left all alone in an unknown city, if you see uncontrollable fire somewhere, if you sense there are thieves in your or neighbour’s house, if you see an accident on road and someone bleeding etc.
The slum children were informed about dialing 100 for police, 101 for fire brigade and taking an accident victim to the hospital emergency. They were also told to fix a password with their parents so that if someone appears on the way and says that the parents of the child have asked him to take the child home, the child can ask this person the password which will ensure the safety of the child.
18
This was followed by the practice of a patriotic poem which the children enjoyed a lot. The activity ended with the distribution of biscuits and chocolates among all the children as routine. Faculty coordinator Prof. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi accompanied the volunteers and enjoyed the visit.

„Parivartan‟ – The Slum Education Programme “Raksha Bandhan
Celebration
10th August, 2014 activity of ‘Parivartan’, the Slum Education Programme, a
CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad shared the reason and importance of
celebrating Raksha Bandhan with the slum children.
Volunteers of the day – Anurag Tiwari, Mashooq Ahmad Malik and Pushpank
Kaushik started the activity by wishing the slum-buds a very Happy Raksha
Bandhan. They explained the reason for celebrating and the significance of the
festival. They also told the children the story of Emperor Humayun and Rani
Karnawati.
Rani Karnawati was the widowed
queen of Chittor, which had been
attacked by Bahadur Shah, Sultan of
Gujarat. The queen realized that
defending her empire from the
invasion was not possible for her and
for protection and help, she sent a
Rakhi to the Mughal Emperor,
Humayun. On receiving the rakhi, the
Emperor was overwhelmed and
became emotional.
He, along with his troops, immediately set out to protect Chittor from the
invasion. Alas, he could not reach on time. The Sultan of Gujarat had, by then,
reached the queen`s fortress. All the women, in the fortress including Rani
Karnawati had performed Jauhar (mass suicide) by then. Humayun, on
reaching the fortress, fought with Bahadur Shah and evicted him from the
land. The empire was handed over to Rani Karnawati`s son, Vikramjeet Singh.
Since then, the act of a sister tying a rakhi on the wrist of her brother indicates
lifelong protection from him.
At the end of the celebration, the children enjoyed singing – ‘Phoolo ka taro ka
sabka kehna hai, ek hazaaro mein meri behna hai. Sari umar hamein sang
rehna hai….’ The activity ended with the distribution of biscuits and

Session on Meditation by Swami Chidrupanandji
Pujya Swami Chidrupananda of Chinmaya Mission blessed I.T.S campus with his
divine presence on 21st August, 2014, and addressed the management and IT students
of I.T.S as part of the orientation program. The theme of the talk was „Ordinary to
Extra Ordinary‟.
It was a great learning to understand systematically the 2 aspects to the so called mind-
the one that knows what‟s right and what needs to be done vs. the one that makes the
choice on what to do.
The sessions methodically made one understand the steps to intellectual growth and
control over this flaky uncontrolled mind. At the individual level, it is understandably
the most important thing to observe the direction of the voice in the head that knows
what is right (The Intellect) vs. the actual direction taken by the other voice in the head
that makes the decision (The Mind).
The key take away from the „ordinary to extraordinary‟ sessions was that everyone has
this Intellect as a guiding force, guiding every human through this maze & traffic
called Life. But our minds are on the loose, trumping every good cry of the intellect.
Therefore with the right skill to program the mind it is possible to control it in the
direction of growth and peace.
28
The session was greeted by Director General, Professor Shekhar Ghose, Director
Management, Dr. Sapna Rakesh, HOD – IT, Dr. S.K. Pandey and others. The
coordinator of the session was Prof. Vijesh Jain of I.T.S, Ghaziabad
