ABSTRACT:
This session will focus on communication and group collaboration by five librarians withinthe CSU system to create the content for a self-contained unit on the information literacytopic of evaluation. These web-based self-standing modules can be embedded into Critical
Thinking, FYE, and GE courses across the CSU. The presenters will discuss the importance
of using of open source products to create the modules, the pros and cons of products suchas Wordpress, PBwiki, LMS systems, as well as what products worked to communicate andmanage this project virtually. The importance of the availability of this module for courses
intending to teach students the concept of information literacy will be addressed.
Edupunk 101: "edupunk is student-centered, resourceful, teacher- or community-created
rather than corporate-sourced, and underwritten by a progressive political stance. Edupunk,
it seems, takes old-school Progressive educational tactics--hands-on learning that startswith the learner's interests--and makes them relevant to today's digital age, sometimes byforgoing digital technologies entirely." (Stephen Downes)
Open Source Tools
Blogs and Wikis- We examined different types of Blog and Wiki platforms for their ease of
use, maintenance and ability to be used by multiple campuses. Eventually we settled onPBworks.
Wordpresshttp://wordpress.com/
Tumblrhttp://www.tumblr.com/PBworkshttp://pbworks.com/
Screencasting- to integrate multimedia tools we examined creating our own videos usingrecording software. We eventually settled on using Adobe Presenter.

Not So Open Source
Content Management- we examined other proprietary tools available at our home
institutions.
