BACKGROUND
About go2hr
go2hr is BC’s tourism and hospitality human resource association responsible for coordinating the tourism industry’s labour market strategy, a key component of the BC tourism industry’s growth plan. This includes developing strategies to enable BC tourism and hospitality businesses to recruit, retain and train employees. Since 1979, go2hr has served BC’s tourism and hospitality industry with programs and services that support its growth and success. Formally known as the Hospitality Industry Education Advisory Committee (HIEAC), the organization was rebranded as go2 in 2003 to reflect a new direction and expanded mandate as the “go-to” place for the industry’s human resources needs. In 2014, go2hr updated its branding to better reflect our primary mandate as the tourism HR association. For more information about go2, visit www.go2hr.ca.
go2hr’s Partnership with WorkSafeBC
In 2006, WorkSafeBC approached go2 to take on the role of the safety association and Certifying Partner for the tourism, hospitality and food and beverage industries. After considerable consultation, five major industry associations (BC Hotel Association, Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association, BC Restaurant and Foodservice Association, Canada West Ski Areas Association, Alliance of Beverage Licensees of British Columbia) endorsed this concept and signed letters of support for go2 to take on this role on behalf of the industry. A contract with WorkSafeBC was signed in January 2009 and go2 created an Industry Health and Safety (IH&S) program to develop and execute a plan to deliver these services. The ultimate goal of these programs is to reduce injuries and improve workplace safety for the industry.
