TheDV-59AVi contains a Pixel Conversion IC thatautomatically increases the signal’s pixelcount from interlaced 480 x 720 to high-de�-nition progressive 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080i.Here’s how: the signal generated by the MPEGdecoder passes through the IC, where thepixel count is increased. The IC actually looksat pixel information from the previous andnext �lm frame before the resolution isincreased, ensuring an extremely accurateviewing experience. Not all pixel convertersare created equal; this is a great one.

To further isolate the DV-59AVi’s componentsfrom vibration, Pioneer designed a triple-lay-ered construction with a stainless steelstabilizing plate underneath the unit. Thisdesign improves signal-reading accuracy, forhigher-quality sound and video reproduction.

A next-generation DVD player must outputa signal in its purest form and with high speed,for optimal quality. Select Elite DVD playersdo this in two ways:

1) HDMI. The DV-59AVi features a new type ofall-digital output called a High De�nitionMultimedia Interface, or HDMI. This high-band-width interface allows huge amounts ofhigh-quality data — both video and audio — tobe output at high rates of speed, up to 5GBps.HDMI doesn’t perform unnecessary D-A and A-D conversions, so the signal remains in a pure,digital state. This ensures the highest possiblequality level, with improved color reproductionand picture detail. HDMI also o�ers convenientplug-and-play capability and accommodates allof the current ATSC digital television formatsand up to eight channels of digital audio.
