Act of Faith
Act of Faith O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches because you have re-vealed them who are eternal truth and wisdom, who can neither deceive nor be deceived. In this faith I intend to live and die. Dear Friends in Christ, We previously meditated on the cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance. These are sometimes referred to as the human virtues, as hu-mans are able to foster these virtues in their own life. The theological virtues are also called the supernat-ural virtues, because we receive these virtues by God’s gift in our baptism. These virtues are faith, hope, and charity. We sometimes think that faith is something we have which allows us to trust in God. In fact, both faith and the capacity for faith are gifts from God. Although faith is essential in the life of a disciple of Christ, when separated from hope and love the Chris-tian does not become fully united to Christ. The above prayer is the Act of Faith. We are all familiar with the Act of Contrition which we learned in preparation for the sacrament of reconciliation, but there are other acts as well. The Act of Faith first reminds us that God has re-vealed to us who He is—a unity of three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It goes on to remind us that when we were baptized, and when we bring our children into the Church by baptism, we ask to receive the “faith of the Church.” Although a particular per-son’s faith may be imperfect because of sin and doubt, the faith of the Church remains perfect as a gift from God. Hence, developing the virtue of faith means uti-lizing prayer and study to form our mind and heart so that our personal faith mirrors the faith of the Church. In short, we pray for the grace to live and to die by believing what God has revealed to us about the hu-man person, the dignity of the human person, the mor-al life, the essential beliefs of our faith, and the virtues necessary for living as a disciple of Christ. Belief goes beyond intellectual assent and moves towards embracing the truth God has revealed to us as a cherished treasure for our good and the good of all His Holy Church. In Christ, Fr. Pat

The 2021 Archbishop’s annual appeal is underway in our par-ishes. You may have already received an invitation from Arch-bishop Lucas to support the work of the Church through a per-sonal commitment in the form of prayer and financial support. As Fr. Pat shared in his article last week, the annual appeal pro-vides important support to our parishes, schools and ministries across the diocese as we work to fulfill the mission given to us by Christ. Our experience as One Church invites us to recognize that every-thing we have is provided to deepen our faith and bring us closer to Jesus and calls us to share what we have received. Please con-sider making a gift in support of the Archbishop’s annual appeal by returning your commitment card this week.
The Rural Central Deanery of the Omaha Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (OACCW) will meet on Tues-day, October 12 in Norfolk at the Sacred Heart Parish Cen-ter. Registration will start at 1:00 pm and the meeting will begin at 1:30.

We are fast approaching our 31st annual Spirit Auction Gala set for Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Norfolk Catho-lic Activities Center. This is our largest single fundraising event of the year and it includes fine dining, a raffle, a silent and live auction, and other surprises. We are grateful for all of our donors who have contributed to the previous success of this event. Thanks to the commit-ment of supporters like you, we have been able to increase salaries for our teachers, purchase a bus, improve technolo-gy, buy curriculum, and provide for other needs. Our entire parish and school community is asked to support this event through one or more of the following ways: * An event sponsorship guarantees at least two tickets for you and a guest to attend, plus special recognition at the event * A monetary donation to offset the costs of the event * Purchase tickets to attend the event * Purchase tickets for the cash raffle * Volunteer to help make sure this year’s event runs smoothly For more information, go to sacredheartnorfolk.com and check out “School Headlines” or “Connect.”
We Are One Parish Festival Thanks
Thank YOU! We are grateful to the many donors, sponsors, and volunteers that shared their time, grilling and baking talents, and resources to our parish for the annual Sacred Heart Parish Festival. We enjoyed a beautiful day and some great food and music. We are thankful for the opportunity to gather and meet new friends, which is what makes our Parish Festival a success and friend”raiser” instead of just another fundraiser. We hope you met someone new and continue to live out the Archbishop’s vision to help one another encounter Jesus in our daily lives. Our planning team would love to hear your thoughts of how we can best serve our parish community in the future and looking for new ide-as. Please watch the bulletin for more information and consider saying yes to being a part of this great work.
God Bless,
Sacred Heart Parish Festival Team

THANK YOU
To all the volunteers who are working on the planting beds
around Sacred Heart Church and the Parish Office, we want
to say Thank You for all your hard
work. We can’t wait to see what the
reimagined landscaping will look like
when it is finished and has matured!
The final step is to put rock in the
beds. If you would like to donate
toward this unfunded project, please
mark your donation as SHC rock
garden.
