• The French speaking group of FIG was created just before the Brighton congress in 1998
• Cultural and relational motivations initially triggered by the adoption of English as a unique working language
• Set up as an informal group => it could not be/it is not a statutory entity

• Annual meeting and dinner at each FIG working week, with some individual exchanges in between
• The GFF strongly contributed to the various reflections which initiated the Task Force on Cultures and Languages
• Some initial ideas - like meetings, the welcome of students or the exchange of teaching material - depend on good will and money from private or governmental bodies, or simply on benevolent people...

• Web site initially though as a central source of useful information about professional education in French, publications, meetings, etc.
• Still active, but no longer completed because of the set-up of more and more informative web sites from OGE, AFT and other French speaking bodies
• Will be reviewed and maintained in a more simple way

• A unique html web page addressed from the FIGTREE may gather some basic information and a collection of useful links to specific sites and documents expressed in a given group language
• The concept of FIG Language Groups must be effectively supported by the Council and associated with “regional” incentives & specific events
