Of South American origin, the Peruvianlily (Alstromeria) is related to onionsand daffodils. Now growninternationally, it was first broughtto Europe in the 18th Century bybotanist Carolus Linnaeus.

Almost alwaysavailable, Peruvian liliescome in many colours,including white, pink,yellow, salmon, and lavender. Flowerclusters are usually very uniform, andflower heads are beautifullysymmetrical and framed by bright green

leaves. Able to retain their beauty forsome time, they makewonderful colourhighlights for seasonal vaseor basket designs, and workvery well in contemporaryarrangements.Designed in a short-
