phase 2 and 3 tricky words and sounds along with letter
formation- children can continue with the pencil

Children will need 1:1 support with Phonics book 5 Pages 26 & 27 to practise reading
the sentences containing some of these high frequency
words.
Phonics play sentence substitution
https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/sentence-
substitution-ph3Have a go at rearranging the different sentences to make
new sentences. Can you read your new
sentences out loud to check whether they make sense?
Extension challenge: Can you write any of your own
sentences containing words which might have these
sounds in them? My brother sat on a chair.
Reading and following instructions- sandwich
makingRead the instructions which can be found in the separate
document on our website.
Discuss how the instructions are set out with a list of
ingredients (you will need) and the method.
Discuss what the numbers are for (show which order to
complete each step in) and talk about how else this could
be done e.g. by using the words first, second, next,
then, finally. Have a go at answering the
questions about how to make a sandwich.
Challenge activity: have a go at writing your instructions
about how to make your favourite sandwich.
Include the ingredients you will need.
Try and include the words: first, then, next, finally.
Can you follow the instructions to make your own
sandwich?

Guided reading: Fish and Ships
This can be found in a separate document on the
website.Discuss the key features of
this book- contents page and index. Look at the contents page and talk about what a contents page is and how to
use it. Talk about how the main
headings on each page match the headings in the contents and the page number tells us
which page to find the information on. At the back of
the book there is an index page. Discuss what an index
is and how to use it.
Activity: using sand/flour/salt have a go at writing some
under the sea words: Shark Fish

wordshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXg5FoDnqCo
Use the train your brain game on phonics play to look at the
tricky parts in these words e.g. the word do the ‘o’ is the tricky part as it sounds like a
long ‘oo’ sound.https://

Children will need 1:1 support with Phonics book 5 Pages 32 & 33 to practise reading
the sentences containing some of these high frequency
words.
Write the tricky words do, out, when and what on some
paper. Using different coloured crayons/pencils/pens
can the children trace over the words to make a word
rainbow
Using sticky paper write down different phase 2/3/4 sounds-
can the children stand on each sound and say it as they
walk around the house?

Somebody Swallowed Stanley: https://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=uf4b4no8ric&t=65sDiscuss who Stanley is?
What is he doing in the sea? How did he get there?
Children to write a list of the different sea animals they come across in the book.
After sharing the story, talk about what the children can
do to help look after the environment. How can they stop plastic hurting wildlife
and polluting the seas?Challenge activity:
recycling materials- Provide your child with a selection of packaging to sort into groups to recycle. Can they identify
plastic, paper, card and metal?
Using different recycled materials can Art: Make your own sea creature or collage a

Watch the first 10 minutes of this video to recap how to tell
the time.https://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=r2K1Py9U87I Look at a clock face- can the children count the numbers
from 1-12?Remind the children that on a
clock there is a big hand which shows the minutes and a small hand which shows the
hour.
Complete page 28 of the maths workbook.
Create a timetable for your day tomorrow. Think about what different activities you need to do throughout the
day. What time will you wake up?
What time will you brush your teeth?
What time will you have lunch? Include other
important things that you do each day.
When creating the timetable, ask children to draw the
hands on the clock to show the correct time that they
complete the task. Example:
8 O’clock
Wake up and brush teeth
An example of a timetable
you can print and use will be included on the Reception
when we ‘subtract’ something, we are taking something away, so the number will get smaller.
Show around 10 objects to children (these could be toy
cars, teddies, lego etc.). Model how you can use the
objects to help answer subtraction questions. For example, say ‘I have 10
teddies, I give 3 of them to my sister (move 3 of them away) how many do I have left?’ Make sure children count out the remaining objects to work out the
answer.
Complete page 13 of the maths workbook.
Please support children while they are completing this page in the workbook. Show them how they can use the objects
to help them answer the questions. Children can also use the hangers and pegs method from last week to
help them with this.
They could also use subtraction smash to help-
children squish the number of playdough balls they are
taking away to help work out the answer.
Subtraction to 10 gamehttps://www.topmarks.co.uk/subtraction/subtraction-to-10
Place up to 10 small objects on a tray/plate. Ask child to
count how many objects there are and when counted
correctly, cover the tray with a tea towel/cloth. Get the
children to write the number they counted on a piece of
paper and the take away sign. E.g. 10 -
Next carefully take away some objects and put them beside the tray so they can see. How many have you taken away? Ask child to
count and write that number on the sheet of paper to make
a number sentence e.g. 10-3=
To work out the answer to this can they count how many items are still on the tray?
This should leave them with the answer to the number sentence e.g. 10-3=7. Can they finish off writing the sentence by writing the
answer
Explain that we can work out how many are still on the tray
by counting back. Put the starting number in your head and count back the number that was taken away to find
out how many are still on the tray.
Children can also use their number line to help with this (use whiteboard pen to show moving backwards across the number line form the starting
number).
3D Shapes songhttps://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A
Talk about some other 3D shapes too e.g cuboid,
pyramid. Make sure children understand the different
between 2D and 3D shapes.
Show a few examples of 3D shape objects e.g. tin
(cylinder), ball (sphere), box (cube) etc. Can the children
say which 3D shape is which?
Make a collection of small 3D shapes, e.g. a small ball, a dice, a toy building brick, a
glue stick etc. Hide the objects in a bag and put hand in the bag to choose one of
the objects (don’t show children!) Describe the shape
and see if they can guess what it is. Can children
describe a shape to you?
Complete page 33 of the maths workbook.
Extension activity: why not go on a 3D shape hunt around
your houseSort the items by which 3D shape they are. This activity
can also be done with 2D shapes if you wish to practise
these too.
Hide some ‘treasure’ in different places around the
house. Tell children that you would like them to become a pirate and find the treasure
by following the clues.
Write down some clues using positional language for
children to follow to find the treasure.
You can use your own clues using the positional language which it highlighted. Here are
some examples:
The first clue can be found next to the sofa.
Next look between the books on the shelf.
Have a look under your pillow.
Try looking above the toy box.
Why not try behind the TV. Have a look inside the fridge.
Other words you could use: Beside, inside, outside over, on.
Extension activity: Can children create a treasure map to show where they
would hide their treasure? Can they include the positional language?
page of the school website.Challenge activity:
Complete the same activity with 20 or 30 different
objects?

Shark sounds game- write down the phase 2-4 sounds on some fish- as the shark eats each sound can your
child say it? Using recycled materials make your own sea creature this

This could be done by using loose parts and materials or stuck down on paper. You could use cut up pieces of
paper from a magazine or newspaper or even cut up old crisp packets or sweet/chocolate wrappers.
You could even use natural materials from outside.
Using bubble wrap, paper plates, string ribbon etc. you could make
your very own hanging jelly fish
