Honoring the Legacy of America’s Greatest Generation. Spirit of ‘45 Day is
observed on the second weekend in August coinciding with the anniversary of
August 14, 1945. That was the day President Truman announced that the most
destructive war in human history was over and spontaneous celebrations broke out
around the world. Atria Senior Living held their own Spirit of ’45 event which included several residents that
served in WWII. There were period poster displayed about along with some very entertaining music from the
era. I was surprised to see candy cigarettes and some old brand candies. I enjoyed talking with the WWII
veterans and listening to the old familiar songs, but atlas (not being the boogie woogie bugle boy of Company
B), I had to enjoy my last bite of Bit-O-Honey candy, bid farewell to the good old days and return to the future.

The building, located in the heart of Fern Creek at 6104 Bardstown Road, was
once the home of the old Union Store which burned down in the mid-forties.
In 1947, the owner of the property, Mr. Martin Schmidt, President of the Coca
Cola Company, leased the property to a community-minded group of
individuals, The Fern Creek Community Club, for a community recreation
center. After his death, in 1953, his widow donated the property to build a
combined Fire house and community building. The building was completed,
with much volunteer labor and $30,000 donated by concerned citizens. It was dedicated in August 1955.
Today, it contains the Fern Creek Chamber Office as well as the Community center and Community rooms. Although its home to the Fern Creek Chamber of Commerce, it’s also the nucleus for other community groups.
Two churches call our building home, Heart Song Cumberland Presbyterian Church and New Life
Apostolic Church. Pastors Drew Hayes and Norman Dukes, respectively, are wonderful members of our
Fern Creek Community and their churches work to provide much needed outreach in the area.
Two groups of Deaf Senior Citizens: The Fern Creek Deaf Club and the Louisville Deaf Seniors are
regular tenants of our building. They meet four times a month and are a complete joy to have around.
They love this community and are good caretakers of the building. We hope they stay for many years to
come.
Three different yoga classes, Beginning Yoga on Monday @ 5:00pm, Power yoga on Tuesday @
6:00pm and Gentle Yoga on Wednesday morning @ 11:30am, also meet here.
The FCCACC Board has approved a major renovation project to upgrade the facilities with an expected
completion date around the end of September.

The threats are many and varied. Don’t be a victim.
Small and medium businesses in the U.S. are the main targets for many cyber threats,
perhaps because smaller businesses don’t have a formal IT Department. Criminals want your
data to sell or use against you. Prominent threats this year are ransomware, phishing, and
cryptojacking.
Ransomware is an attack in which hackers hold the company’s data hostage until a ransom is
paid.
Phishing is a cybercrime that occurs when attackers use social engineering (posing as a bank or the employee's
president) to trick the person into providing sensitive data or clicking a link to deliver malicious code to a
computer.
Cryptojacking occurs when a bad actor highjacks computers or mobile devices to mine for cryptocurrency (such
as Bitcoin, Zcash or Monero). While your business still has access to its data, you’ll notice the system moves
very slowly and you might have a much higher energy bill.
There are several things you can do to protect your business:
Use a good anti-virus software. If you have any questions about how we can help you please reach
out to us and see how we can make you look Awesome!
1. Make sure your computer operating system (OS) is up to date.
2. Train your employees not to click on email links and to be careful of attachments since that's where
most viruses and ransomware hide.
3. For cryptojacking, check the Task Manager and contact your IT provider right away if you notice
unusually high usage.
4. Back up your data on a regular basis so you can restore your files if your network gets infected with a
virus or ransomware.
