NEW FACEBOOK PAGE DESIGN & FUNCTION
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
This is GREAT news!!
WHY?!?Because now we can:• Choose to post to the wall as an
administrator OR as ourselves• Write on another Page’s wall
without leaving our Page• Choose to be notified when
someone writes on your wall, comments on your posts, or likes a page
• And more!

IF YOU WANT THE QUICK & DIRTY OVERVIEW, TAKE THE FACEBOOK TOUR
MAX 5 MINUTES TO COMPLETE
If you want a more detailed explanation of the changes, read on…
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
Now, more than ever, your top photos should be compelling and tell your command’s story
.
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
Note, there are no longer tabs at the top, so this looks just like a
personal profile.

SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
Note, wall posts by fans will now only appear if
they are they are considered “interesting” according to Facebook’s secret sauce algorithm
(just like on your homepage news feed)
As an administrator, you can see all of the posts by selecting the “Admin
View” option
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
This is probably the most confusing, but very beneficial, change, so pay attention.
You can choose to “use Facebook as your Page”
It will seem as though you are logged into the account as “U.S. Navy” or as “Your Command”
This is useful because you can comment on other pages as “Your Command”
Be sure to switch back to yourself (“use Facebook as YOUR NAME”) before engaging in personal activities on Facebook.
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
If you have more than one administrator, when they view new notifications, the red flag goes away, essentially marking that notification “as read”
When logged in as “Your Command” you will see the red flag notifications, just like you do for your personal profile, but these notifications are for your command’s Page!
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
The default is set to always comment and post on your page as “Your Command,” but if you want to have the option to
comment to your command’s Page as yourself, then you can change that setting by Unselecting the check box below
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
From that same screen, you can choose to receive an email notification when people
post or comment on your Page.
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
If you were one of those people who accidentally put your Page in the wrong
category, now you can change it! Hooray!
Go to “Edit Info” and select your category and subcategory as seen below.
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
The default setting is to view your Page posts AND fan posts. If you want to change this to only view posts by you, you must go into your settings and select what your want your wall tab to show. You may want to leave your wall open to posts by all fans. In
the next slide you will see how we can increase engagement among Navy pages.
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
The new improvements allow one page to post on the wall of another page. Below is an example of the U.S. Navy page posting on the wall of
the Surface Warriors page.
To post on another page’s wall your page will have to “Like” the other page. That will show up in your page’s “Likes” and be transparent to the fans.
The administrator can adjust how the Pages your page “Likes” display in that left-hand column. See the next slide for directions.

Be sensitive to endorsement issues. We will explore this more in the near future, but for now we recommend you just “like” other government Pages for the time being.
You can select the top pages you would like to appear on your wall, under your “Page likes.”
To do this, go to “Edit Page” and “Featured” section to “Add Featured Likes”
Then select which Pages you would like to be featured.
We recommend that you DO NOT add Featured Page Owners for your own privacy.

When you upgrade the page, you can’t go back… so let the
other admins and your fans know before you flip the
switch

I hate change. Do I have to?Not right this second, but much like the personal profile/wall
change a few months ago, everyone will eventually be required to go to the new page design. So we encourage you to switch
and start getting comfortable with new layout!
