Code of PracticeSome useful tips are given in the brochure to encourage a more respectful fishing practice and the environment in general.
Any fish or crayfish captured outside the opening period must be freely and immediately returned to the
water at the place of its capture.

When to fish?

Fishing is permitted one hour before the official time of sunrise until one hour after the official time of sunset.
Fishing is prohibited at all times:

• in the locks
• In the fish-ways, artificial bypass for river obstacles that hinder the free movement of fish and outfalls to faci-litate downstream migration and less than fifty meters from the infrastruc-ture.
• on and within fifty meters downstream of dams and weirs in the area of calm waters
• the top of bridges and footbridges spanning the waterways
• in the Monsin island with the exception of the Esplanade Albert edge
• in the valleys with the exception of the valleys of the Sambre and Hemlot, where fishing is still allowed
• in the spawning grounds following the Meuse: Colébi spawning grounds, Dave, Jambes, Maizeret, Namêche, Lanaye and Ossay islands and Bouries
• in confluences of the Sambre with: the Thure, the Hantes, the Biesmelle, the Eau d’Heure, the Biesme and Fosses stream
• in confluences of the Meuse with: Her-meton, Molignée, Bocq, the Burnot, Samson and the Mehaigne
• in white water streams where they pass through a wood surrounded by the forest
• in the Meuse, downstream of the dam of Lixhe, on the right bank of the border with the Flemish Region and the left bank to the height of crossing the street in Halle and the platform of the dam
• in Amel, less than fifty meters downstream from the waterfall of Coo
• in Ourthe, between the dam and the Nisramont bridge, as well as downstream from the Grosses Battes dam in Angleur to the Grosses Battes bridge in Angleur
• in the Semois, from the Vanne des Bains to the bridge of France in Bouil-lon, and the full width of the Semois for twenty meters upstream from the mouth of the valley to the Ilions bridge on route N832 at Cugnon
• in Gileppe, Eupen and Ry de Rome lakes

The limits of fishing zones are indicated on each bank using the following pictogram :
The authorised equipmentIt is prohibited to use a fishing gear or equipment other than :• the line hand (max. 2 per fisherman). The fisherman
must be in close proximity to them and be able to monitor them constantly. The number of single or mul-tiple hooks is limited to three for the same hand line.
• the balance of crayfish (max. 5 per angler). The largest dimension of the crayfish balance cannot exceed two feet.
• landing net is used only to remove the fish or crayfish caught by angling.
Every fish caught other than by mouth must be returned immediately and freely to water at the place of capture.
Prohibited practicesIt is not allowed to :• practice ice fishing.• fish by hand or any other search technique in places
frequented by fish or crayfish.• catch fish in tin or lead box and any similar structure
or lure imitating it, by whatever means the animal may be imitated.
During the close pike season, it is forbidden to use:• fish bait • artificial baits, except artificial or rotating or vibrating
or swaying bait, equipped with a single hook whose largest dimension does not exceed two centimetres.
Preferably use a deep basket whose thread is made of a soft material and devoid of nodes;
Remember to take all baits and excess primers and materials (nylon, weights etc.)
What equipment to use?
Banned Baits and Lures• blood, cord, brain or offal (offal is authorised for fishing
crayfish using scales)• fish eggs, fresh or canned, alone or mixed in bait or
primers• live fish. However, fishing is allowed with vivid species of
group 1, as well as through the bleak spirlin, chub, stud, ruffe, river perch and minnow, except for the coloured varieties of these species when they exist. In this case, the line can be established only by means of a pole
PoundingShelling (stir the bottom of the river with their feet to attract fish during the fishing action) performed by the angler himself is allowed from 1st Saturday in June to 30 September.
In the White-water area, only the use of barbless hooks or crushed or pinched barbs is allowed.

Chiers, the Dendre in its part not included in the hydraulic
routes, as well as its tributaries, the Dyle downstream of the
confluence of the Gala (or Cala) Hour, La Hantes, downstream
of the French border at Montignies Saint Christophe; The
Hemlot, the Lesse downstream of the confluence with
the Lhomme, the Mehaigne and its tributary the Soile, the
Neufchâteau stream downstream of Lake Neufchâteau,
Orneau downstream of Onoz, the Ourthe downstream of
the bridge of Jupille to Hodister, the Rulles downstream
of the Trapperie pond, the Semois, the Senne, the Vesdre
downstream of the confluence with the Hoëgne, the Vierre
downstream of the confluence with the brook of Neufchâteau,
the Viroin, from the confluence of the Ru du Fond du Haza to
the confluence with the Ton.
White watersThe Amblève upstream of the Pont de Sougné, the Ourthe

Charleroi The Canal (Chanxhe-Poulseur and Angleur), the
Dender canalized downstream from Ath ;
The other canals or parts of canals mentioned in Annex 1 to the
Royal Decree of 2 February 1993 listing hydraulic dependencies
transferred from the State to the Walloon Region ;
The following lakes: Lake Bütgenbach, Eau d’Heure lakes,
Eupen lake, Gileppe lake, Neufchâteau lake, Lake Nisramont,

Limitation of fishing and harvesting
Sampling banThe levy is prohibited:• in the Meuse, Sambre and Scheldt, for any fish that has
not been fished in the main bed of the river.• the Meuse downstream from the Lixhe• for brown trout in the lake of Plate Taille until 1 January
2021• for all whitefish fish• for all brown trout of more than 50 cm in the still water
zones and mixed water zones with the exception of lakes and ponds
Limits of levyThe levy is allowed only if the captured fish reaches the specified minimum size:

The fish length is measured from the end of the mouth to that of the tail fin.
When a species is subject to a minimum length of sample, all fish of that species whose head or tail were cut are considered not reaching the minimum length of sampling.

Every fish caught subject to a levy of prohibition or captured as surplus is to be returned immediately and freely in to water at the place of its capture.

The fishing license is mandatory useful information and contacts

The fisherman must carry their own fishing license for the Walloon Region.The license is available to all regardless of age.
Types of fishing licenses• Permit A for € 12.39: Fishing with only one or two lines on the waterfront and the use of net.
• Permit B for € 37.18: permit A + any fishing, with one or two lines by hand other than on the edge of the water (wading, boat, pontoon) This permit also authorises the use of crayfish scales.
The license is personal and valid for the current year. It cannot be exchanged against a permit of another value.
The license of Walloon is enough to fish on the waterways. On the other rivers, the fisherman must obtain their license and the membership card of the fishing company or, in the absence of a company, the authorisation of the riparian owner.
Points of saleFishing l icenses are available online on the website www.permisdepeche.be. The license can be downloaded immediately after placing the order.
Permits are also issued at bpost-kiosks located in the Walloon Region.
