Outline The design is focused on making a foundation of the Agroforestry studies and exploring a way to effectively use the limited local materials and skills basedon the knowledge and techniques developed in Japan. The site is located approx. 300km north of Manila, 2km inland from the coast of South China Sea. The building is planned at the center of the existingfacilities scattered within a valley surrounded by low mountains, also part of the extensive university campus. It has 4 facility blocks (faculty, management, classroom, research center/auditorium) encircling a courtyard, considering the effective use of natural light and ventilation. For finishing, handmade local materials such as wooden frames and panels are installed rigidly onto the concrete frame grid of the columns and beams, suitably employed after considering the level of local techniques. The building complex is highly regarded by the locals for its preciseness and is hoped tobecome the symbol of friendship and cooperation through the coexistence of handmade & accuracy, and local & Japanese technologies.
